Coach Jana here, talking about BALANCING blood sugars as aka GLUCOSE
- One thing I've noticed, and was especially evident on a summer vacation this year, was with my 7 year old son and that he gravitates towards eating just carbs. Limited protein. Limited fat. On our vacation, he was having big ups and downs with his mood. So a big lesson for us, was sitting down and starting the conversation...to identify which foods are carbs, proteins, and fats. We determined if he's going to have fruit, fruit snacks (yes, even the organic, all fruit ones), cereal, bread, pasta, etc, (...even if they are gluten free), there needs to be a protein/fat component. We adjusted the sails and this approach immediately started working/ I had a happier kid with a more regulated mood the rest of the vacation! ...What has amazed me, was how much even a 7 year old understood about carbs/proteins/fat. On this trip and since he will approach me, "Hey mom, I have cereal, a fruit snack, granola bar, gluten free pancake, what can I have with it?" And then I give options...
Adults or childen alike, sugars obviously can affect our nervous systems, mood, inflammation, and our overall bodies.
And it's not just about food... movement can be a key piece. What we like to do in our house? Go for family walks, bike rides, swimming, paddle boarding, kayaking, or even doing yard work, ESPECIALLY around a meal time to help balance the glucose levels. In a nutshell, these tactics can be SO helpful and SO SIMPLE.
Maybe these lessons will help you too. Keep weaving those good practices in! 🙌
