Screenings like Pap tests and mammograms can help detect cancer early, when it’s most treatable.

If you’re unsure where to start, worried about cost, or just feeling overwhelmed, you’re not alone. Support is available.

💛 Women’s Way helps connect eligible individuals to breast and cervical cancer screenings and may help cover costs if you qualify.

🌞🌿 Enjoying the Great Outdoors This Summer? Don't Forget Tick Protection! 🕷️

With warmer weather here, many of us are spending more time hiking, camping, gardening, and enjoying outdoor activities. While you're out making memories, be sure to protect yourself from ticks.
⚠️ Ticks can carry bacteria, viruses, and parasites that may cause serious illnesses. An infected tick can transmit disease through its bite, and anyone spending time in grassy, wooded, or brush-filled areas may be at risk.
📅 Tick season is typically at its peak from April through September, but tickborne diseases can occur any time of year.

Help reduce your risk:
✅ Use an EPA-registered insect repellent
✅ Wear long sleeves and pants when possible
✅ Check yourself, children, and pets for ticks after spending time outdoors
✅ Remove ticks promptly and properly

🖤❤️💚 Juneteenth 💚❤️🖤

Today we recognize Juneteenth, a day that commemorates freedom and honors reflection, learning, and progress toward stronger, healthier communities for all.

From a public health perspective, Juneteenth is a reminder that many factors shape health and well-being, including access to resources, supportive environments, and opportunities to live, work, and thrive safely.

At Western Plains Public Health, we are committed to being a place where everyone is welcome. We work to support individuals and families through prevention, education, and services that help people make informed choices for their health.

Public health is rooted in the belief that everyone deserves the opportunity to live well and feel supported in their community.

Today we honor the meaning of the day and reaffirm our commitment to serving all members of our communities with respect and care. 🖤

Everyone is welcome.

🍷⚠️ Recognizing the Early Signs of Alcohol Concerns in Teens ⚠️🍷

The early warning signs of an alcohol problem can sometimes be hard to recognize because they may look similar to typical teen behaviorslike mood changes, seeking independence, or shifts in friendships.

That’s why it’s important for parents and caregivers to stay informed and aware of patterns that may signal something more serious.

Learning the signs to look for can help you better support your teen early and reduce risk before a bigger problem develops.

🧺🌞 Happy International Picnic Day! 🌞🧺

Picnics are a great way to enjoy the outdoors, good company, and delicious food, but warm weather also means it’s important to keep food safety in mind so the only thing you bring home are great memories.

Here are a few simple tips to help keep your picnic safe and enjoyable:

🧊 Keep cold foods cold (use coolers with ice or frozen gel packs)
🔥 Keep hot foods hot until serving time
🚫 Don’t leave food sitting out for more than 2 hours (1 hour if it’s very hot outside)
🧼 Wash hands or use hand sanitizer before eating
🍗 Keep raw meats separate from ready-to-eat foods
🥗 Pack foods in clean, sealed containers to avoid contamination
☀️ When in doubt, throw it out. Food safety is always worth it

A little planning goes a long way toward preventing foodborne illness so you can focus on enjoying your picnic safely with family and friends.

Have a fun and safe International Picnic Day! 🧺💚
