The Science Behind Stretching With Cups On
Cupping creates a vacuum that pulls tissue upward (the opposite of compressive massage).
This decompression:
• Separates fascial layers
• Improves fluid exchange and local circulation
• Softens restrictions so the tissue glides better
When you add movement or stretching at the same time (or immediately after):
• The elongated position is easier to achieve
• Adhesions can release more effectively
• Neuromuscular patterns start to reset
Many practitioners use static cups followed by stretch, or dynamic/gliding cups while the client actively moves the joint. Both approaches aim to turn a temporary “lift” into lasting length and better function.
