What if the problem isn’t that working moms aren’t doing enough—but that they’ve been expected to do too much?

This Friday, I’m going LIVE with Courtney Cecil, founder of Working Moms Movement, to talk about ā€œThe ā€˜Having It All’ Lie Nobody Warned You About.ā€

We’ll unpack the invisible mental load behind balancing careers, parenting, relationships, and our own well-being—and why constantly trying to excel in every role can become unsustainable.

More importantly, we’ll talk about what can actually help: redefining what success looks like, building habits that support the life you’re living, and creating systems that don’t require you to carry everything yourself.

Because thriving as a working mom shouldn’t mean becoming better at doing it all.

Not all advice translates across cultures.

In this conversation with James, we talked about something many Asian Americans can relate to: receiving advice that sounds reasonable on the surface, but doesn't align with the values and responsibilities they grew up with.

As a psychiatrist, I've learned that context matters. Family expectations, cultural identity, and the experiences of growing up in an immigrant household can shape how we make decisions in ways that outsiders may not fully understand.

Advice that encourages complete independence may resonate with some communities, but for many Asian Americans, caring for family is part of their identity—not just an obligation.

That's why I believe we should be thoughtful about the advice we give. Good advice isn't just well-intended; it's culturally informed.

Watch this clip to hear why James believes one-size-fits-all advice doesn't always work.

Have you ever received advice that didn't fit your culture or your lived experience?

If you're new here, hi! I'm Dr. Krysti Vo. šŸ‘‹

I'm a dual board-certified psychiatrist, habit change expert, and the creator of YouHabits.

After years of working with patients, I noticed a common pattern: people usually knew what they wanted to change—but turning those intentions into lasting habits was the hard part.

That experience inspired me to create YouHabits, an 8-step habit-building framework designed to help people build routines that fit their values, identity, and everyday life—not someone else's definition of success.

If you're here to learn more about mental health, habit formation, and practical strategies that actually work in real life, you're in the right place.

šŸ’¬ I'd love to know—what habit are you currently working on?

✨ Comment "youhabits" and I'll send you free access to the course.

Do you ever feel like you're doing everything... but still don't feel fulfilled?

That's one of the biggest patterns I've noticed as a psychiatrist.

Many people assume they need more motivation or discipline. But often, the issue isn't that they're doing too little—it's that their daily habits aren't aligned with what actually matters to them.

That's why I created YouHabits.

I wanted to build a framework that helps people move beyond simply being productive and start creating routines that support their values, mental health, and long-term fulfillment.

If you could change one daily habit, what would it be?

✨ Comment ā€œYouhabitsā€ if you want to start your habit journey

What if the first step to recovering from burnout isn't working less—but speaking up?

I often see people waiting until they're completely exhausted before asking for help.

Zac shares why vulnerability, open communication, and creating boundaries outside of work are essential—not only for employees, but for managers too.

Watch the conversation to learn what healthy workplace support can actually look like.

What's one boundary that's helped protect your mental health at work?

Have you ever noticed how your mind feels less crowded after writing things down?

As a psychiatrist, journaling is one of the simplest practices I recommend because it builds something many of us overlook, self-awareness.

When you understand your thoughts, emotions, and habits, you're better equipped to respond instead of react.

You don't have to write pages every day—even a few honest sentences can make a difference.

šŸ“ If you're looking for a way to start, here are Wave of Mind journals to guide you.

They're currently 25% off on the website, and if you order through the link in our bio, you can also use the code 'YouHabits20' for an additional discount.

It's a great opportunity to start your journaling practice at a more affordable price.

šŸ’¬ What's stopping you from journaling consistently?

Do you know the difference between telepsychiatry and telemental health?

These terms are often used interchangeably, but they don't mean the same thing.

As a psychiatrist, I think it's important for patients to understand who they're receiving care from and what type of virtual mental health service they're accessing. Knowing the difference can help you make more informed decisions about your care, whether you're seeking therapy, medication management, or both.

šŸŽ„ Watch the video for a simple breakdown of telepsychiatry vs. telemental health and why understanding these terms matters.

Do you see AI as a threat—or a tool?

Watch this clip to hear Zac's perspective on navigating the future of work with AI.

I know that uncertainty at work doesn't just affect our jobs—it affects our mental well-being too. Career changes, layoffs, and rapid advances in technology can create stress, anxiety, and difficult decisions.

But this conversation isn't about fearing AI.

It's about learning how to adapt, use it intentionally, and recognize the opportunities it can create alongside the challenges.
