It’s one of the most common questions I hear, and while everyone’s needs are different, these are the tips I always recommend:
Identify what you want help with.
- Take some time to think about what you’re hoping to work on or what challenges you’re facing.
Look for a therapist whose specialties match your needs.
- Not every therapist specializes in the same areas, so finding someone with experience in what you’re seeking support for can make a big difference.
Consider the practical details.
- Think about things like insurance vs. self-pay, location, scheduling, and whether telehealth is an option that works for you.
Ask questions!
- It’s okay to ask about a therapist’s approach, experience, availability, or anything else that’s important to you. Finding the right fit matters.
Remember—therapy is a relationship, and it’s okay if the first therapist you meet isn’t the right fit. The goal is to find someone you feel comfortable with and supported by.
At Andrews & Associates Counseling, we’re always happy to answer questions and help you find the therapist that’s right for you.
