Calling all of our gardening friends!

We recently had some large planters built so our residents could do some summer gardening this year. We have a needs list for this project, and are hoping you can help!

To kick off this year's Salute to Service Banner Program, the existing banners were hung up in time for Memorial Day. We had the chance to speak with WLUK on Friday before Memorial Day about the banner program, and you can see one in the background!
Six more banners were completed this week and delivered to the City of Manitowoc to be hung up very soon, so be on the look out as the trail to Red Arrow Park gets longer! Anyone interested in learning more about our Salute to Service Banner Program should go to our website shadylaneinc.com/banner for all the details.

Calling all gardener friends!

We have a wonderful donation opportunity for anyone who may be interested in helping bring a special project to life for our residents at Shady Lane. An employee’s husband is generously building a raised garden bed that residents will be able to help care for and enjoy together this summer!

We are currently in need of:
• Approximately 0.75 yards of potting soil (equal to about 10-12 bags of 2 cubic foot potting soil)
• Started vegetable plants, preferably varieties that grow upward rather than spread out and take up a large amount of space.

Tomatoes (especially patio or determinate varieties with cages)
Peppers (bell peppers, banana peppers, jalapeños)
Green beans (bush beans or pole beans with a trellis)
Peas (grow beautifully upward on a small trellis)
Cucumbers (if grown vertically with a cage or trellis)
Lettuce
Spinach
Kale
Swiss chard
Green onions
Radishes
Carrots (great for raised beds)
Herbs like basil, parsley, dill, thyme, and chives

As a local non-profit organization, we are incredibly grateful for the generosity and support our community shows us time and time again. Donations like these help create meaningful activities, joy, and connection for the residents we serve.

If you would like to contribute to this project, please email Becky directly at [email protected]. We would greatly appreciate receiving the soil and plants sometime next week, if possible.

Thank you for helping us grow something special!
