As Wednesday comes to a close and settles down in my home I am left here thinking about all of the things lately.

This Wellness Wednesday I wanna talk about knees and knee replacements!

Man! A few yrs back i was in a cadaver lab and the sweet lady who donated her body to science (which I am always FOREVER grateful for these opportunities) had had 2 knees, shoulder, both hips, and an ankle reconstruction. She HAD to have been in pain.

We got to take the knee replacements out and compare and contrast how technology changed from her 1st knee to her 2nd knee. We got to see how they pound the one end into the femur and the jolt that takes on the body. We got to see scar tissue formations and muscles that were affected.

I am thankful for technology and modern medicine to help ease the pain and discomforts in life. And I am incredibly blessed to work on/with many of you as you go down journies of knee/joint replacements.

These things are complicated and takes many months/yrs for some of you to get to that point.

These pictures dont do it justice but the joint of the knee and the components that make up the knee are mighty.

Strengthen those quads and hamstrings and stretch the tfl muscle and the calf muscles. All those things can help alleviate some knee discomfort. đź’ť

Deep Pressure and the Nervous System!!! From a therapist perspective

Not every client needs deep pressure and sometimes, it’s the worst thing you can do.

We’ve all had clients say, “You can go as deep as you want, I like it hard.”
But here’s what they don’t know and what most therapists forget:

When pressure goes too deep, too fast, for too long... the body doesn’t relax it fights. That’s not therapy. That’s trauma with oil.

Instead of calming the nervous system and inviting the body into a healing state, you’re triggering the sympathetic response adrenaline, bracing, guarding, shallow breath. Muscles don’t release. They contract harder.

You might feel like you’re “breaking through,” but the client’s brain is actually screaming:
“Protect, protect, protect!”

This creates the illusion of progress but nothing actually changed.
No signal reached the brain to let go.
No shift into parasympathetic mode.
No healing.

Deep work should feel safe, not forceful. It should invite not invade.

The most skilled therapists don’t push harder. They listen deeper.
They adjust pressure based on the nervous system’s response not their own ego.

It’s not about how deep you go, it’s about how deep the body lets you in.

Wellness Wednesday!

SKELETAL SYSTEM!!!

Did you know that we are made up of roughly 206 bones!? Some people have more, some have less!

This is the foundation if you will that protects our organs and provides a frame for our muscles and ligaments and such. Our skeletal system enables movement and also produces blood cells!

This system has 2 special groups. The Axial l, which is made up of the skull, spine, and rib cage. The Appendicular skeleton makes up the shoulders, pelvis, and limbs.

Bones are living tissue that continously remodel and heal. They are made up of spongy bone that is the outer and inner layer of compact bones.

There are 5 different types of bones:
Long: Longer than they are wide (e.g., femur, humerus).
Short: Cube-shaped (e.g., carpals in wrist, tarsals in ankle).
Flat: Thin, often curved (e.g., skull bones, ribs).
Irregular: Specialized shapes (e.g., vertebrae).
Sesamoid: Embedded in tendons (e.g., patella).

Bones require nutrients, especially calcium and vitamin D, and regular exercise to remain strong.

Common disorders include osteoporosis (weakened, brittle bones) and fractures, often treated by orthopedists.

Key Tips to Strengthen Bones:
Weight-Bearing Exercises: Engage in activities that work against gravity, such as brisk walking, jogging, skipping, dancing, and climbing stairs.

Strength Training: Use weights or resistance bands to strengthen muscles, which stimulates bone growth. Focus on exercises like squats, lunges, and overhead presses, targeting 3 sets to fatigue, 3-4 times a week.

Dietary Calcium: Ensure adequate intake (approx. 1,000–1,200 mg/day for adults) through dairy products, leafy greens, fortified soya, and tofu.Vitamin D and K2: Get daily sun exposure to boost Vitamin D, which helps absorb calcium. Include foods with Vitamin K2 (fermented soy, hard cheeses) to help manage calcium levels in bones.

Lifestyle Adjustments: Quit smoking, limit alcohol, and take steps to avoid falls, which can lead to fractures.

Remember to be gentle with your skeleton system and take measures when and where you can to support the framework of your body! 🥰

Wellness Wednesday!

Let's talk about your endocrine system!

What is it? It releases hormones directly into the bloodstream to regulate vital bodily functions, including metabolism, growth, reproduction, sleep, and mood. It works alongside the nervous system to maintain homeostasis (balance), using hormones as chemical messengers to communicate with target tissues throughout the body.

Diseases arise when there is too much or too little of a hormone (imbalance) or issues with the glands.
-Diabetes
-Thyroid disorders
-Hormonal Imbalances

Key Organs:
Hypothalamus- connects nervous and endocrine system and signals Pituitary gland

Pituitary Gland - master gland-controls other endocrine glands

Thyroid Gland -regulate metabolisim

Parathyroid -controls calcium levels for bone health

Adrenal Glands-produces hormones to manage stress levels

Pineal Gland-helps promote sleep

Pancreas-releases insulin/glucagon to manage glucose

Gonads-testes and ovaries producing reproducing hormones

This is such a vital system of our body and is so important to know what and how it affects our overall health.

Hope this sheds some light on a new system to you!
