Two Ole Miss students have been found dead as authorities investigate whether the cases are connected.

Officials say packaged kratom recovered from a retail store was found at both scenes, but stress they have not confirmed that kratom or any other substance contributed to either death.

Law enforcement is treating the deaths as two separate investigations and is urging the public not to speculate while the cases remain under review.

The University of Mississippi says it is "heartbroken" by the loss of the two students and is warning that unverified information circulating on social media is inaccurate. Campus police say they are aware of only the two confirmed student deaths.
