Does cold weather really make joint pain worse? Sort of, but not the way most people think.
The largest study on the question followed 13,207 people with long-term pain and found no meaningful link between temperature and pain. What it did find was humidity and falling air pressure. So it is the damp, grey, low-pressure morning your knee notices. The thermometer is mostly a coincidence.
Why does that matter? Because if you blame the cold, you stay indoors and wait for spring, and that is one of the worst things an arthritic joint can do. Keep moving, warm the joint up before you ask anything of it, and judge your arthritis on a longer timescale than the weekend forecast.
If the flare is not passing, that is worth a look. We see patients here in Riverdale, GA.
