October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and today is International Breast Cancer Awareness Day. The purpose of this day is to promote early detection, encourage regular self-exams and routine medical exams, to raise awareness about the emotional and social impact of breast cancer, and to advocate for ongoing research and access to treatments.

We have been talking about flu season as well as washing hands... But what about washing the place you wash your hands? A dirty sink can recontaminate your hands after washing; your hands may brush against the basin, water touching the basin could splash onto your hands, or when touching the faucet handle. This goes for build-up as well as grime from daily use.

Flu season is here, and Fikes of Minnesota is bringing you some flu season survival tips!

1. Get vaccinated! Flu vaccines take time to build up your immunity, so doctors generally recommend getting the vaccine in September or October before the height of flu season between January-March.

2. Stay home if you're sick! If you're already sick, the best thing to do is stay home and rest. Don't spread it to others!

3. Wash hands often! Every surface becomes a war zone during flu season... Make sure you are washing your hands many times, especially after using the restroom, handling food, or touching your face. Always use soap and scrub for at least 20 seconds!

4. Sanitize! If you don't have access to soap and water, hand sanitizer is a good alternative until you can get to the sink. Also be sure to clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces, like tables, door k***s, hand rails, etc.

5. Cover coughs and sneezes! Use a tissue to cover, and if you don't have a tissue, your elbow works too! Just try not to cough or sneeze into your hands.

6. Take care of yourself! The most important tip during flu season, and all of the time, is to make sure you are taking care of yourself. Get plenty of sleep, drink lots of fluids, eat healthy foods, be active, and reduce stress as much as possible.

Eagles 34 Events in Minneapolis has been one of our customers for over a decade, and they recently decided to set-up the hand sanitizer stations they had out during the pandemic. However, they ran into an issue... 😮

The dispensers they had were an older style and they couldn't find the refill cartridges for them. They reached out to us at Fikes, and we replaced their old dispensers with new automatic dispensers, as well as sold them a bulk-fill sanitizer. Not only were we able to hang the new dispensers on the same stands they had, but the bulk-fill option is saving them close to 50% of the cost of the refill cartridges!
