I know you may be in full on summer mode and I don't want to rush it, but I also know you will soon feel a hum of what is coming and it starts early this year. Now is a great time to make a plan for yourself so that you can navigate the arrival of September and all it brings with enjoyment and as much ease as possible. This is the time to see if joining A Mindful Life can help you to do just that. I'm writing early because groups start early and they fill up. Planning it into your schedule is the key to making what you want real. Click the link to learn more.

More often than not my phone stays in the kitchen by the Hulk cookie jar. A good reminder to be strong and avoid being tempted -- not by cookies, but by everything the phone calls me to do.

A Mindful Pause 7/12: Week 4 of Breaking Up With My Phone
Last time I wrote, I was just a week into my smartphone detachment project. Today I enter the “final” week of Catherine Price’s "How To Break Up With Your Phone" program and I am happy to report back my findings. This is what I am aware of…

The whole experiment is a practice of presence. And not just a little bit. In trying to let the smartphone go, we are confronted with everything we distract ourselves with in life. It goes beyond the phone. We see all the ways we get caught in trying to fix life itself (which of course doesn’t work). The smartphone contains most of the fix-it temptations wrapped into one easy, small device which is what makes it so powerful. To let the urge to fix it go is truly a practice in awareness and mindfulness.

It became clear to me over the past week that if we are on the Path – the path of living a mindful life, then detaching from our devices isn’t just a nice complement to it. It is saying I am fully on board with wanting to be present, alive, and honest with myself. Click the link to read more.

I am finding that this break up goes beyond the phone. It shows how we get caught trying to fix life itself and that never works.
