Sacred Smoke bundles when burned infuse the atmosphere with negative ions. Although this may sound like a bad thing, negative ions are prevalent in pristine forests and near waterfalls. Burning smoke bundles infuses the air with aromatic smoke that can relax and calm overactive mental chatter.
Although White Sage is probably the most common plant associated with what many know as smudging, lots of aromatic herbs can be used. here I am using Mugwort, Artemisia vulgaris. Mugwort is famous for helping contact ancestors, encouraging lucid and prophetic dreams, aiding in divination and to decalcifying the pineal gland to increase intuition.
To create high quality smoke bundles I harvest the top 12-18 inches of plant and let them wilt in a shaded area or indoors several hours. I cut them into 6-8 inch bundles that are roughly 2 inches width.
I tightly knot the bottom, then spiral the string evenly up to the top. I then work my way back down the bundle, tightening as I go. They try sit for several weeks in a basket to dry.
