I’m sharing this with the hope that it doesn’t happen to you.

Keep in mind that I can usually smell this kind of thing from a mile away.

Yesterday a man called me at my shop and said his name was Matt and that he was calling from National Grand bank, which is my bank.

It’s a small town bank, here in Marblehead and there is a guy named Matt there.

The caller sounded just like someone I’d expect to hear from, and my bank is know for making calls to people to verify transactions.

He asked about a charge to my account which I said was not mine and he indicated that he would help me with it. Keep in mind that nothing about his call felt “off” in any way, shape or form.

He said he would text me a link to verify my identity and said it was time sensitive.

I was busy at the shop and after a few minutes he called back.

I stopped what I was doing, clicked the text link and filled in my bank user name and password.

At that point my girlfriend had a gut instinct and encouraged me to call National Grand directly.

The whole thing was a scam.

They immediately shut down my online banking and told me I should get my phone cleaned.

I called our local tech wizard, Steven Bach at Digital Docs and he gave me good advice.

I am now waiting 24 hours minimum for Apple to go through their extensive security procedures to restore my phone and then the tedious work of securing all my other accounts and information begins.

The harbor as seen from Crocker Park is such a great place to observe the changing seasons. The appearance and disappearance of boats reminds me of budding trees, first snow falls, and when I switch to ice coffee.

Dear Marblehead,

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for supporting Vanessa Freedman as she ran the Boston Marathon to raise money for the MGH department that saved Gary’s life.

Her goal was to raise $10k.

Thanks to you she raised over $15,000!!!!!!!

Our town is a magnificent, true community and you really demonstrated that fact to Vanessa, Gary and the entire Freedman family.
