I would like to take a moment and talk about the molecular switch that happens when a women stops breastfeeding. The ‘love hormones’ that have been flowing freely slowly become less and less when a woman starts to wean, which can significantly increase feelings of depression and anxiety. This is a very intense, emotional rollercoaster that I feel is a bit taboo. Have I felt this? Yes! Is it ok to talk about? Yes! After 830 days I am ready to have my body back but this means so much more than that. It is about appreciating my body, this miracle that has allowed me to feed another human for over 2 years. But what I have learned is to embrace duality. While I am grateful for my breastfeeding journey, the effects of weaning are very real and should be talked about! It is about embracing change, and allowing the emotions to run through like a river. It’s ok to cry, to celebrate, and to marvel at this amazing journey. Can any other mamas out there relate? What were some acts of self-care that helped you get through this transitional time? We are not alone ❤️
