Yes!!!!
Communication is not speech.
Speech is one way we communicate, but it's far from the only way.
A child who points to a picture, uses a sign, selects a button on a communication device, reaches for a favorite toy, or looks toward what they want is communicating.
Too often, we focus so much on spoken words that we overlook all the meaningful communication already happening.
The goal isn't necessarily speech.
The goal is connection. The goal is expressing wants, needs, thoughts, feelings, and ideas.
Every child deserves a voice, no matter what form that voice takes.
