Here’s the uncomfortable truth I’ve been sitting with lately as a therapist:

Are we doing real psychotherapy… or have we started selling paid coddling?

I’ve turned away four people in the last two weeks who wanted to vent and feel validated about normal life stress, not the intensive, structured work of actually getting stronger. And I don’t feel bad about it.

That’s not what I do.

Real therapy isn’t a weekly comfort subscription. It’s honest assessment, learning tools, facing discomfort, and building the grit to handle life. Comfort has its place, but it’s not the goal.

If you just want someone to tell you everything is valid and never challenge you… I’m probably not your person (and that’s okay, the majority of therapists offer that).

The culture is pushing fragility disguised as awareness.

I’m still betting on resilience.

A recent client satisifaction feedback survey shows how a structured approach, with goals and tools, really does make a difference.

No passive therapy. No aesthetic therapy.

Detailed, effective, and clear. It's what people are actually in need of.

New Podcast Episode: Stage 1 Safety in Trauma Recovery
Safety is not a warm-up stage.

It is the essential foundation of all trauma recovery. Before we can process or reconnect, we must first feel safe in our bodies, our relationships, and our environments.

Unfortunately, many who call themselves “trauma-informed” move too quickly past this critical phase, which can leave clients feeling more dysregulated or re-traumatized. Real trauma-informed care honors Stage 1 as non-negotiable. (If they don't know about this, leave. It's time to look somewhere else where someone can truly care for you.)

In the latest episode of my podcast, Untangled Mind (S7 Ep 84), I break down exactly what genuine Stage 1 Safety looks like, both externally and internally, and how we return to it throughout the healing journey.

If you’re a survivor seeking real, responsible support…

Or a fellow clinician wanting to deepen your practice…

I invite you to listen and learn more about my approach at Untangled Mind LLC. My process is rooted in the Triphasic Model, emphasizing safety first, thoughtful pacing, and sustainable healing.

I had to sit my brain down for a serious talk this morning. 😂🧠

(Exhibit A: me in my official “Nope, not today” uniform)

You know that moment when your mind starts playing the greatest hits of worst-case scenarios? “What if this happens… remember last time… better brace yourself…”

Nope. Not today. 👕

Our brains are wired for efficiency, they love cruising down old neural highways and automatic thoughts. The problem? Those paths were built from past experiences, not the present moment. When we don’t catch them, they happily drag us into anxiety, pessimism, or full-on mental doom-scrolling.

The biggest culprit: Prediction

Your brain is a prediction machine. Every second it’s guessing what’s coming next to keep you “safe.” It grabs old memories, mixes in whatever’s happening right now, and spits out a forecast. The catch? It’s often wildly off because it’s biased toward threats and familiar patterns. Evolutionarily smart… but not always helpful in modern life.

3 Quick Steps to Interrupt the Spiral:

1. Catch it:
Notice the prediction happening. Say out loud or in your head: “Ah, there’s my brain predicting doom again.” Labeling it creates instant distance.

2. Question it:
Ask: “Is this thought a fact or a forecast? What evidence do I actually have right now?” (Most of the time the evidence is… thin.)

3. Redirect with curiosity:
Replace the prediction with a present-focused question: “What’s one small thing I can do or notice right now?” Ground yourself in reality instead of the brain’s Netflix thriller.

The more you do this, the more you build new neural pathways. Your brain learns you’re not buying the old story anymore.

So next time your mind starts writing fan-fiction about how everything’s about to go wrong… just show it the shirt.

Nope. Not today.

Who else has to give their brain regular pep talks?

Feeling like a fraud lately.

I’ve always been strictly private-pay only, and for good reason. But after sitting with the tension between my values and reality, I’m now opening a very limited number of insured spots through Headway… only for anxiety and trauma work.

Growth isn’t always comfortable, even for the therapist. Learn more below.

What helps you heal?

Not just talking it out.

Real change starts with nervous system stability, before trauma or anxiety work.

I’ve heard it too many times: “I’ve never had a therapist like this.”

Here’s what’s different:
• Baseline battery of assessments so we know exactly where you start
• Monthly reassessments so you see real progress
• My Untangling Mind workbook series, built to stabilize the brain and nervous system first and keep us rooted in your healing
• Active work. You participate. I guide. No passive sessions

You also get:
• My podcast and blog
• Weekly newsletter
• Client-only video hub

I give you all the tools and work myself out of a job, because I’m confident in your ability to heal.

Untangling the knots, focused sessions, hands-on support. This is how it works.

Ready for something that actually gets results?

Real feedback from a recent client:

“Piper is very direct and to the point. I think that’s a good thing. Why waste valuable counseling time beating around the bush? I was comfortable with that — I can imagine some would squirm in their seat a little, but Piper likely knows her audience. We covered a lot of ground quickly. The most helpful part was her willingness to tell me the hard-to-hear reality of my situation without sugarcoating it. Honestly is the answer.”

This is the kind of feedback I receive again and again.

I approach therapy with compassion and care, but I refuse to waste your time with fluffy affirmations or endless “soft talk.” When you come to me, you’re usually clear about the change you want to see. My focus is on helping you get there; efficiently and effectively. That means giving you honest, upfront feedback, practical tools, and actionable skills you can start using immediately.

My goal is simple: to work myself out of a job. I want you to leave our sessions equipped to handle life’s challenges on your own, without needing me long-term.

Yes, my style can make some people uncomfortable at first. Society has trained us to expect therapists to nod along, validate every feeling, and never challenge anything. But that’s not psychotherapy, at least not the kind that creates lasting change. Real progress comes from facing the truth, even when it’s hard, and then doing the work.

If you’re tired of the same old head nodding therapy that keeps you circling the same issues without real movement, and you’re ready for a direct, results-oriented approach… I’d love to talk with you.

You deserve therapy that actually helps you grow.

Waiting desperately for an apology that never comes?

Or worse, getting a half-hearted “sorry you feel that way” that somehow hurts even more?

You’re not too sensitive. You’re not overreacting. And the ache you feel? It’s real.

Some people simply cannot bring themselves to apologize. Not because you don’t matter… but because their own attachment wounds, fragile ego, or emotional immaturity make true accountability feel impossible. Their silence or weak non-apology says everything about their limitations and nothing about your worth.

In the new blog post + deep-dive podcast episode, we’re unpacking the psychology behind it all:

-Why some people choose to apologize while others never will
-How your attachment style (and theirs) shapes both giving and receiving apologies.
-The hidden pain of waiting, hoping, replaying conversations in your head
-Gentle, practical ways to calm your nervous system and reclaim your peace when repair never arrives

You deserve relationships where accountability flows both ways.
Where “I’m sorry” is followed by real change, not excuses, deflection, or silence.

If you’ve ever carried the weight of a crappy apology (or no apology at all), this is for you.
