For years, I’ve believed that public health leaders should be held accountable for the decisions they make during national health crises.

Today, Dr. Anthony Fauci is appearing before Congress under subpoena to answer questions about decisions made during the COVID-19 pandemic and related government actions. Whether you supported him or criticized him, accountability and transparency should never be controversial. (Reuters)

I also think it’s reasonable to ask why President Biden issued Dr. Fauci a preemptive federal pardon before he left office. People have different interpretations of what that pardon means, but it’s a fair question to ask and one worth discussing respectfully. (Department of Justice)

History should be examined honestly. That includes decisions made during the AIDS crisis, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the relationships between government agencies, scientific advisors, and the pharmaceutical industry. If mistakes were made, the public deserves the truth. If wrongdoing occurred, it should be exposed. Accountability should apply to everyone, regardless of politics.
