Using Shockwave Therapy for Low Back and SI Joint Pain

In this video, discover how Dr. Cynthia Seebacher, DC, uses Shockwave Therapy to help patients find relief from chronic low back pain and sacroiliac (SI) joint pain.

This non-invasive treatment uses sound waves to help the body heal itself from the inside out.

🟣How Shockwave Therapy Helps Your Back🟣
Shockwave therapy (also called ESWT) is a gentle way to treat deep pain without surgery or drugs. Here is how it works to fix the root cause of back and hip discomfort:
✅Boosts Blood Flow: It helps the body grow tiny new blood vessels, which brings fresh oxygen and nutrients to the area.
✅Lowers Inflammation: It calms down the chemicals in your body that cause swelling and pain.
✅Clears Away "Junk": The sound waves help break down old scar tissue and hard calcium deposits that make you feel stiff.
✅Repairs Tissue: It signals your cells to start building new, healthy collagen to strengthen your ligaments and muscles.
✅Turns Down Pain Signals: It works on your nerves to help "numb" painful trigger points and stop the cycle of chronic pain.

💚Why We Use an Integrated Approach💚
Dr. Cynthia Seebacher, DC, often combines Shockwave Therapy with chiropractic adjustments and massage.
This "triple threat" approach is powerful because it treats the whole problem:
☑️Chiropractic Adjustments: Fix the alignment of your spine and joints.
☑️Massage Therapy: Relaxes the tight muscles on the surface.
☑️Shockwave Therapy: Heals the deep tissues, ligaments, and joints that are often missed by other treatments.

This combination is especially helpful for the SI joint (the place where your lower spine meets your pelvis) and the facet joints in your back. By treating the alignment, the muscles, and the cellular damage all at once, patients often feel better faster and stay pain-free longer.

When you hear hoofbeats, think horses, not Zebras.

The Zebra Metaphor in Medicine

Doctors are often taught this saying:

👉When you hear hoofbeats, think horses, not zebras.

This means:
👉 When trying to figure out what’s wrong with a patient, doctors should first look for COMMON conditions (the “horses”).
👉 They are trained not to immediately think of rare or unusual diseases (the “zebras”).

Why “zebras”?
👉Zebras are real animals, but they are uncommon in most places, especially compared to ordinary horses.
👉So if you hear hooves, it’s probably just a horse… not a striped zebra.

🟣How Patients Use the Metaphor

👉People with rare, complex, or hard-to-diagnose conditions started calling themselves “zebras.”

These are often patients with:
- Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (hEDS)
- Hypermobility disorders
- Dysautonomia / POTS
- Fibromyalgia
- Other chronic or overlapping illnesses

They may wait years for a correct diagnosis because their symptoms don’t follow the usual “horse” patterns.
Many feel dismissed or misunderstood by doctors who were trained to look for common explanations.

🟣The Positive Message

The zebra has now become a proud symbol for these patients. It means:

- “Sometimes it really is a zebra.”
- Every zebra has unique stripes — just like every patient’s symptoms are different.
- A group of zebras is called a “dazzle”, showing the power of community and support.

🌿 May is EDS and hEDS Awareness Month 🌿

Did you know that some people are born with "stretchy" bodies?

It is called Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS). The most common type is hEDS. In people with this condition, the "glue" that holds the body together (connective tissue) is too flexible. While being extra bendy might sound like a superpower, it often causes:

▶️Joints that pop out of place easily 🦴
▶️Chronic pain and feeling very tired 😴
▶️Injuries that happen more often than they should.

🦓 Why the Zebra?

In medical school, doctors are told: "When you hear hoofbeats, think horses, not zebras." This means they should look for common illnesses first. But sometimes, the patient is actually a Zebra—someone with a rare or complex condition that needs special attention.

💚 We See You at Fusion Chiropractic
At Fusion Chiropractic, we proudly welcome the Zebras! Dr. Cynthia Seebacher understands these conditions deeply. She provides gentle care designed specifically for hypermobile (extra-stretchy) bodies.

Our goal is to help you:
👉Lower your pain.
👉Make your joints feel stable.
👉Calm your nervous system.
👉Feel strong and "at home" in your body.

💜 You Are Not Alone

If you live with EDS or hEDS, your symptoms are real. You deserve a doctor who listens and understands.
