And that’s pretty much it.
Insurance companies love collecting premiums… but when it’s time to pay your claims, they're not so quick, are they? Oh, here’s some fun terms they use and what they secretly mean:
“We need more information” = “we’re hoping you go away.”
“Not medically necessary” = “we’re hoping you AND your doctors go away.”
“Prior authorization,” =you didn’t ask permission before needing help, and we hope you go away.”
“Experimental service or treatment” = “even though it’s been around since 1998, we’re not paying, and we still hope you go away.”
That’s to name a few. Hey, none of us ask or desire to be insured; we get it for protection. The hope is not to use it, but if you do need it, it’s crazy how difficult the process can be.

Let’s clear this up: ultrasound, heat, ice, e-stim, dry needling… those are modalities—not the main event.

Physical therapists are doctors who evaluate, diagnose movement issues, build a plan, prescribe exercise, and actually teach you how to get better.

Unfortunately, not all practices or therapists can or choose to treat this way. If your PT sessions feel like you’re being rotated between hot packs and a tangle of wires, while your “session” is mostly spent as one of several patients being juggled—or handed off to a tech or aide—and that’s it? You’re not really getting physical therapy—you’re just killing time on a treatment table.

Might be time to upgrade your provider!

Health insurance: where profits are up, and so is your deductible! Fun.

Executives at UnitedHealth Group, Cigna, and Elevance Health say it’s “market-based compensation.” Cool.

As for your providers who do choose to participate with your plan out of necessity, we’re buried in prior authorizations. Practices, clinics, and departments hire entire teams to fight denials. Providers burn out arguing with algorithms instead of treating their patients.

For the record, we think it’s fine and great to make money. Profit isn’t evil. But if your bonus grows when claims get denied, and care gets delayed… maybe the market incentives aren’t exactly aligned with patient health.
