Today we honor Juneteenth and all that it stands for, including the celebration of the unyielding spirit of so many people. Juneteenth marks the liberation of enslaved people in 1865. While it became a federal holiday in 2021, the ongoing work of liberation, equity, and healing continues today and every day.

“Pride matters because everyone deserves to grow up feeling seen, accepted, and empowered to explore and understand who they are."

Shequita Campbell, LMSW says “Happy Pride! As a black cis-queer-identified therapist, I recognize the impact of systemic marginalization and the courage it takes to exist within it. Pride, to me, is both an act of resistance and a homecoming. Pride recognizes how "enough" we are, you are.”

She won’t be at Smyrna Pride this year, but you can find more information about Shequita at www.se.care and can meet other members of our team at Smyrna Pride this Saturday 6/13!

We’d like to take time this month to share about why Pride matters to each of us - not just in June, but every single day.

Daron Elam, LPC, (she/her) shares “I really love doing meaningful identity discovery work with clients who live with invisible differences as well as those who have felt othered and misunderstood for a variety of reasons. Being a part of Smyrna Pride is important to me because I know what it's like to feel constrained by identity rules and for me, this entire movement exists to express our collective right to exist fully, without shame. Pride honors the idea that love doesn’t need permission to be real and this really resonates with me personally and professionally. I think it's true that, sometimes, what moves us most in others is what our own spirit is trying to claim.”

Juliana is a Client Experience Coordinator, so when you call our office she might be the one you talk to. She says, “Pride matters to me because we all deserve a space to be heard and respected and SEEN, and when we find that space, we have so much more room to take care of ourselves and each other.”

Jamie, LPC, CPCS, ACS (she/her) is the resident “boundary queen”. She works with veterans, law enforcement, and professionals navigating difficult relationships and trauma. Jamie helps folks get clear, speak up, and stop over-explaining themselves.

“Pride matters to me because people deserve to exist out loud without shrinking, apologizing, or editing themselves to be accepted, and I’m passionate about protecting spaces where that’s actually possible.”

Pride Month is a celebration of resilience, joy, community, and the courage it takes to live authentically in a world that doesn't always make that easy.

At Summit's Edge, we recognize that many LGBTQIA+ individuals carry stories of rejection, shame, discrimination, religious trauma, family estrangement, and the exhausting work of constantly navigating spaces that weren't built with them in mind.

This month, and every month, we remain committed to creating a space where you don't have to explain your existence, defend your identity, or shrink yourself to be accepted.

You are worthy of love. You are worthy of safety. You are worthy of healing. You are worthy exactly as you are.

Whether you're out, questioning, celebrating, grieving, exploring, or simply trying to make it through the day, we're glad you're here.
Happy Pride Month from all of us at Summit's Edge. 🌈💜
