Does one calf always feel tight?

You stretch it.
Foam roll it.
Massage it.

Maybe it feels better for a little while… then the tightness comes right back.

Here’s something most people don’t consider:

That tightness may not be coming from a lack of flexibility. It may be your body’s way of telling you that the tissue doesn’t have enough capacity for the demands being placed on it.

Your calf muscles help absorb force, control movement, and propel you forward every time you walk, climb stairs, hike, exercise, or simply spend long days on your feet.

When those muscles fatigue or struggle to keep up with the load, your nervous system may increase muscle tension to create stability and protection, which can feel like chronic “tightness.”

That’s why stretching often provides temporary relief but doesn’t always solve the problem.

Sometimes the missing piece is strength.

One of my favorite places to start:
👉 Calf raises.

Stretching isn’t bad. It can absolutely help symptoms. But if you’ve been chasing the same tight calf for weeks or months without lasting results, it may be worth focusing on building strength and capacity as well.

The goal isn’t just to make the muscle feel better, it’s to help it handle more.

Upper back pain or tightness from sitting at a desk all day?

Hours spent at a computer can leave you in a forward head, rounded shoulder position. When that happens, the upper traps often pick up the slack to help support your neck and shoulders, leading to that familiar tension, tightness, or burning sensation.

3 exercises I commonly recommend:

✅ Chin tucks: improve deep neck flexor activation and help counter forward head posture.

✅ Pec stretch: open up tight chest muscles that can pull the shoulders forward.

✅ Serratus push-ups: strengthen a frequently underutilized muscle that helps the shoulder blade move and stabilize efficiently.

If your upper traps or back always feel tight after a day at the desk, try adding these into your routine and see how your body responds.

A lot of people put off physical therapy because they don’t know what the first appointment will look like.

At your first visit, we’ll walk you through everything, from insurance and scheduling to understanding your diagnosis and what’s actually causing your symptoms.

And the biggest thing? Don’t wait until the pain becomes unbearable to get checked out. Small issues have a way of turning into bigger ones when ignored. Early treatment can make recovery faster, easier, and less frustrating.

If something feels off, come see us in Santa Monica, Marina Del Rey, or Culver City.

What even is pelvic floor PT?

It’s physical therapy for all the things people are told are “normal” to just live with… but actually aren’t.

Leaking when you run, jump, sneeze, or laugh
Pregnancy & postpartum recovery
Pelvic pain or pressure
Constipation
Core weakness or feeling “disconnected” after birth
Urgency/frequency issues
Hip/back pain that just won’t quit

Your pelvic floor is a group of muscles that works with your core, breathing, hips, and nervous system… not some mysterious separate body part. And pelvic floor PT is about helping those systems work better together through movement, strength, mobility, education, and rehab.

Basically: less suffering in silence, more getting answers. 🤝

For all the “TMI” things, come see us. Your symptoms are probably more common (and more treatable) than you think.

Good teams don’t just happen in the clinic.

Grateful to work with people who make the hard days lighter, the wins more meaningful, and the work genuinely fun.

A little team bonding outside the clinic to celebrate everyone’s hard work!

Strong hips aren’t just about glutes 🍑

Your adductors (inner thigh muscles) play a huge role in hip stability. If they’re weak, your hips (and knees) end up picking up the slack… and that’s where issues can start.

Here’s a simple progression to build that strength:
• Modified adductor side plank
• Full adductor side plank
• Modified Copenhagen plank
• Full Copenhagen plank

👉 2–3 sets of 20–40 sec holds
👉 Own each level before moving on

This is about control, not just surviving the hold. If you can’t keep your hips steady, you’re not ready to progress yet.

Stronger adductors = better hip stability = more resilience

Save this for your next strength session 💪

Patellar tendinopathy (jumper’s knee) = anterior knee pain from overload… or sometimes underloading (especially knees-over-toes ranges).

The goal 👇

Don’t avoid it forever; modify it. Temporarily reduce knee-forward stress, keep loading the quads, gradually reintroduce as tolerance builds.

Simple progression I use:
1️⃣ Wall squat (vertical shin)
2️⃣ Split squat ISO hold
3️⃣ Oscillatory split squat hops
4️⃣ Forward lunge (return to knee-over-toes)

What actually works:
✔️ Load quads through multiple angles
✔️ Strategic exposure > avoidance
✔️ Progressive overload (based on symptoms + sport)

And yes, knee extensions are 🔑 for building strong, resilient quads.

Pain ≠ stop.

It means adjust the load and keep moving.
