🦟 Mosquito Bite Prevention & Awareness 🌿

Mosquito season is here—and so is the need to protect yourself from bites. While most mosquito bites are just itchy and annoying, some mosquitoes can carry diseases like West Nile virus, which is the most commonly reported mosquito-borne illness in Ohio.

Mosquitoes only need a small amount of standing water to breed, which means prevention starts right at home.

Here’s how to protect yourself:
🧴 Use EPA-approved insect repellent when spending time outdoors
👕 Wear long sleeves and pants, especially around dawn and dusk
🪟 Keep window and door screens in good repair
💧 Empty standing water around your home at least once a week:
• Buckets
• Bird baths
• Flowerpot saucers
• Kiddie pools
• Gutters
• Old tires

Reducing mosquito breeding sites around your home is one of the best ways to protect your family and your neighborhood.

Stay bite-free this summer and do your part to help keep our community healthy 🦟☀️

Our Food Program Manager, Madison Aldrich, joined mobile food operator and MPH board member, Rob Lill, on a panel at the 130th Association of Food and Drug Officials (AFDO) Annual Education Conference, a national event. Together, they shared practical insights on regulating and operating successful mobile food businesses—blending the inspector’s perspective on compliance and enforcement with real-world operator experience.

Events like this strengthen understanding between regulators and industry partners, ultimately helping us protect public health through safer food operations across Marion County, Ohio, and the United States.

Great job representing our team, Madison and Rob!

With summer weather in the forecast, it's finally pool season for many of our residents. Remember when shopping for a swimsuit the safest options should be bold, visible colors that do not camouflage easily in a pool, lake, or other body of water.

June is Men's Mental Health Awareness Month, and we're keeping the ball rolling with tips from mantherapy.org.

Anger is like a cutting torch: misusing it burns everything down. When the heat rises, take a Tactical Time-Out: physically leave the situation (literally leave the room) for five minutes to shift your brain from ""fight mode"" to ""logic mode.” Then find an outlet to burn your fuel in a positive way. Hit the gym, or hit the floor and do some pushups. You'll start feeling calmer and more in control.
