I officially revamped and refreshed my Infant Feeding Evaluation Template! This is the exact template I use in my own practice, and I went through it section by section to fill every gap I could find.

The morning rush as a working mom is no joke.

But amid the chaos, I remind myself that this season of small hands, messy kitchens, and little giggles is so short.

These five things keep me up at night and I am not being dramatic.

Triple feeding without an exit plan. I support triple feeding as a short term bridge when it is clinically indicated. What I do not support is a family doing it for weeks with no reassessment, no goal, and no one checking in. Triple feeding is exhausting in a way that is genuinely hard to describe and it needs a plan and a timeline.

Mastitis. Always. But especially heading into the holiday season when everyone is traveling, schedules are off, feeds get skipped, and no one is paying attention to how mom is doing. Please do not push through a hard, red, hot spot hoping it resolves. It will not.

Tongue ties identified with no support or care plan. A diagnosis without a plan is just information. If someone told you your baby has a tongue tie and sent you home, you deserve more than that.

Ni**le shields handed out with zero follow up. Ni**le shields can be a genuinely useful tool in the right situation. They are not a discharge gift. Handing one to a new mom with no instruction, no follow up, and no weaning plan is setting her up for a very long road.

Six month waitlists for babies who need help today. A baby who is struggling to feed cannot wait six months. Every week matters in those early months and families deserve access to support that actually meets the urgency of what they are going through.

There is nothing like sitting across from a family who had completely run out of hope and watching things start to shift. That is the whole reason I do this.

Taking your toddler to the pumpkin patch this weekend? Save this first.

I know it feels natural to point at everything and ask “what color is this?” or “how many pumpkins do you see?” but quizzing your toddler actually puts them on the spot and shuts communication down instead of opening it up.

The pumpkin patch is already one of the richest language environments your toddler will walk into all fall. New smells, new textures, new sounds, animals, hay, mud, and more pumpkins than they have ever seen in their life. Your job is not to turn it into a lesson. Your job is to follow their lead, point and label what they are already looking at, and then zip it and wait.

The pause is the hardest part and also the most important. Count to five silently after you say something. Give them room to respond. Most parents fill that silence immediately without realizing it and their child never gets the chance to initiate.
