A fun little idea that came to me the other day - and a creative way to remember the functions of different acupuncture points! 💐 Large intestine 20 - right next to the nose - is also called "Welcome Fragrance" and helps with nasal congestion and blocked sinuses. 🎧Small intestine 19 is right in front of the ear - also called Ting Gong - and helps with hearing related issues, tinnitus, and TMJ. ❤️Ren 17 - also called shanzhong or chest center - is helpful for opening the chest and relieving anxiety and breathing issues. They're all green flags ✅- which do you need most right now? And fellow acus - any ideas for other "blind dates with an acupuncture point" you can think of? 😘

Chiro + massage combo on Thursdays or Fridays from Dr. Zach and Gina DuBois, LMT - HIGHLY RECOMMEND! I feel so lucky to have had access to this when I hurt my back today, otherwise I would have been in pain all weekend and that’s a NO GO when you’re picking up an almost-toddler constantly. Reach out to us and/or Gina Gina DuBois to set up a service to get put back together again 🕶️

Do you think you might be experiencing burnout/running on the fumes of stress hormones?

Stress hormones can be weirdly addictive - sometimes we don’t recognize how to function when they’re not revving us up.

But chronic stress is not sustainable - it wears on your immune system, your emotional regulation capacity, and so much more.

Feeling super tired the day after acupuncture does not always happen, but when it does this is usually the explanation. (And, keep in mind, this is usually on a backdrop of pain or whatever the condition is getting better over the course of treatment.)

It’s all part of the process of regulation and shifting your body into a new default state-of-being!

Also, it’s actually pretty cool to me when people report this side effect - because acupuncture isn’t just like taking a vitamin - some innocuous thing you know is good for you but you’re not really sure if you feel any different - you FEEL the effects of acupuncture on your way to improved health and healing. And getting acquainted with new aspects of yourself is pretty cool.

WHY does interacting with the microbiome of the soil have this effect? It contributes to the diversity of our OWN microbes.

Greater diversity of microbes is linked to stronger immune system, reduced risk of allergies, asthma and autoimmune conditions.

Serotonin and mood boosting comes into play because the gut and brain are connected (via the vagus nerve -> the gut-brain axis).

What’s EXTRA fascinating from a TCM lens is the digestive organs (spleen/stomach) are categorized under the *Earth* element 🤯

Get out there and touch the earth!! 🌍

Does your doctor ask you all these questions?
Don’t you think they should?

We are used to getting passed around between specialists that look at all of your different body systems, parts, and conditions separately, and who don’t talk to each other.

The power and beauty of Chinese medicine is that it’s all interconnected - and we view it and treat it that way.

Some people are surprised about how in depth we get - often they haven’t discussed their health so comprehensively with so much unrushed time to piece it all together. With a practitioner to whom it makes sense as a whole. And can then facilitate your body’s natural ability to heal without an Rx.

For those who have felt like a mystery, a puzzle with missing pieces. You make sense.

In line with my recent reel on dampness - I’ve recommended roasted carrots to several people this past week because they boost spleen qi, and they’ve said “omg, I’ve been craving those and making them like crazy!” The body is wise!

An easy rule of thumb is that yellow/orange is the color associated with the spleen/stomach, or earth element - foods of that color support digestive qi. So, other options: roasted spaghetti squash, yellow summer squash, sweet potatoes, butternut squash. 🧡💛🧡

I made mine with grated ginger and roasted at 350 until they were done 😆🥕

Have you been told or suspect that you have “dampness” but you’re not sure what that means?
In Chinese medicine, if spleen qi is weak, dampness is likely to accumulate.
We make qi from food/drink/breathing (nutrients, hydration, oxygen) - it’s what makes us living breathing beings.

Qi is responsible for circulating your blood and body fluids.

Spleen qi in particular is responsible for “separating clear from turbid” - aka raising clear energy to your head so you can think and remember clearly, and descends waste material through the system to the bladder & intestines to be eliminated.
If spleen qi is weak, that “turbidity” gets mixed with the “clear” and you have muddy waters, so to speak. Bloating, swelling or puffiness in the legs or face, sticky stools or sluggish digestion, brain fog, skin issues like acne or oily skin, chronic mucus/congestion, yeast infections/chronic discharge, plaque in the arteries, and more.

Chinese medicine puts a name to this concept many of us experience but didn’t know was all connected, or that you could do something about it!

Dampness can contribute to or be part of issues down the line like fertility struggles, stubborn weight gain, high cholesterol, dementia, edema, the list goes on.

Acupuncture, herbs, and some strategic lifestyle changes can help a lot!
