My heart absolutely overflows with gratitude and joy when I see a client graduate from therapy and move on to a happy, healthier life and achieve their dreams! Therapy is very hard work but when someone is invested and committed, their effort always pays off. And as a clinician, there is no greater gift than being allowed into the journey. It is a privilege and honor that I do not take lightly.

Recently, I had to replace the couch in my office. It was a red leather couch but it had become so cracked and worn. And a replacement patch didn’t match at all. Interestingly, it was a difficult thing to do! It’s funny that you can become attached to an inanimate object. But over the years, that couch has bore witness to many, many tears of both tragedy and triumph! My new couch has received mixed reviews. But I’m looking forward to many more years of helping people achieve wholeness!

May is Mental Health Awareness month and as such I felt it is important to address the recent tragic loss of Naomi Judd. Her family initially disclosed the loss due to “the disease of mental illness”. A few days later, the family elaborated that her death was the result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. This happened the night before she and her daughter were to be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. I explain all of that as a reminder that depression does not discriminate. It is so important to seek help if you or a loved one are suffering from depression. Locally, for Clark and Edgar counties, you can call the RBHN crisis line at 1-866-567-2400.
