What does it take to be ready when every second counts?

We hosted a first-of-its-kind Simulation Day, bringing together our EMS team, ER nurses, the Iowa National Guard’s 209th Medical Company, Marshalltown Community College and other healthcare professionals for hands-on training designed to sharpen skills, learn from one another and strengthen communication.

Through realistic simulation stations, participants had the opportunity to practice, collaborate and build the teamwork that is essential during real-life emergencies.

Take a minute to watch this behind-the-scenes look at how training like this helps prepare our local teams for tomorrow.

Strengthening emergency response in Marshalltown
UnityPoint Health – Marshalltown hosted a large-scale Trauma Simulation Day today. The event brought together healthcare teams, first responders, military personnel and nursing students for hands-on training focused on emergency response and community partnership.

More than 100 participants took part in interactive training throughout the day. Sessions included trauma care, triage, decontamination, patient transport scenarios and simulation with patient manikins.

Organizations involved included:
• UnityPoint Health staff
• UnityPoint Health Emergency Medical Services (EMS)
• Iowa National Guard’s 209th Medical Company
• Marshalltown Community College
• SimIowa
• Regional emergency management leaders

The goal of Trauma Simulation Day was to support education, strengthen teamwork and build partnerships across hospital teams, civilian responders, military medical personnel and academic partners.

“This event gives participants the opportunity to build technical skills and learn how to work together during high-acuity situations,” said Jeff Gilchrist, UnityPoint Health – Marshalltown Trauma Program Supervisor.

We’re proud to support training that improves communication, teamwork and readiness to respond to emergencies in our community. 💙
