My wife Amy and I are excited to announce we have purchased well established funeral homes in the area. The Pursel-Davis Funeral Home and Estel-Perrin-Avey Funeral Homes in Marshalltown along with the Johnsto

n Funeral Home in Conrad and the Goettsch Perrin Funeral Home in Gladbrook will all now be known as the Anderson Funeral Homes. The Marshalltown location will be designated as the Main Street Chapel. The Johnston Funeral Home and Goetsch-Perrin Funeral Home will be designated as the Conrad Chapel and Gladbrook Chapel. One family, locally owned, serving you with the same personal, professional & caring services the previous owners did for well over the last 100 years. With my purchase of the funeral homes, the Anderson Funeral Homes now becomes the only Veteran owned Funeral Home in the area. While serving our country during Desert Storm in the U.S. Army I learned the meaning of loyalty and dedication. It is this loyalty and dedication that drives me daily to provide the best service possible to our families.

We serve families 24/7/365 but unfortunately we won’t be able to host a funeral or visitation on Wednesday, July 22nd as RAGBRAI will be rolling into town and right past our Funeral Home. Instead on that day we our host Iowa River Hospice for a fundraiser. I am entering my 8th and final year on their board. It’s been an honor to support the greatest Hospice around. Also we will be moving our M out front facing the riders as they come into our downtown area so they may stop and take pictures with our RAGBRAI “M”

Marshalltown is set to serve as an overnight stop for just the second time since 2004 on Wednesday, July 22 — the last one, in 2012, was affected significantly by a major storm — and as an avid rider with a business along the route, Anderson decided he had to go above and beyond, commissioning revered local artist Missy Sharer Pieters to repaint the M outside of his building with a distinct RAGBRAI flair.

“I just happened to be mowing grass one day and walked by my ‘M’ and said, ‘That needs a fresh paint job,’ and what better way to do it with RAGBRAI coming to town?” he asked. “And then we’re gonna go ahead and get it repainted again for Oktemberfest and probably a military veteran, America theme. Typically, you don’t want to redo it twice a year, but in this case I’m going to.”

Sharer Pieters told the T-R she isn’t an avid cyclist but considers RAGBRAI one of Iowa’s most “glorious” traditions allowing so many communities of all sizes to showcase why their town is a gem in Iowa.
