Teacher followed a student after he kept saying his “deer friend” was old and needed help after school.
A teacher noticed one of her students watching the clock all day, asking again and again how much longer until school was over. When she finally asked why he was in such a rush, he told her he had an old friend waiting for him who needed help getting home.
Something about the answer stayed with her. After school, she quietly followed from a distance, worried he might be meeting someone he shouldn’t.
Instead, she watched him walk toward the edge of the woods, where an elderly deer was standing near the trees. The teacher froze. The boy walked up calmly, spoke softly, and started guiding the deer toward a safer path near the park.
When the teacher stepped closer, the boy noticed her and explained that the deer was old, blind, and sometimes got confused trying to find her way back. He wanted to make sure she ate and made it safely to the park.
He said he had been helping her after school because nobody else knew she needed help. Every day, he guided her to the park, then brought her back to the edge of the woods.
The teacher didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. She had followed him thinking something was wrong, but found a child quietly helping an old blind deer because his heart noticed what everyone else missed.
