Improved ultrasounds and gait patterns are what we like to see most! The tape may be small and a massage may seem like a luxury, but they can go far for your horse’s health!

I can’t wait to see how this guy continues to progress this summer with his mom! They have been so patient and putting in all the work!💗💪🏼

All of the small things matter. Every grooming session, shoe reset, extra hand walk, sweep down the aisle, stretch after a work session.. they may seem tedious, but they truly add up to maintaining a happy, healthy horse day in and day out.

Your horse will likely benefit to some degree from the inconsistent bodywork, inconsistent vet visits, semi quality shoeing, working here or there, but horse truly needs consistency in order to fully bloom. Doing the random acts of kindness for your horse will leave their bodies confused, sore and in an endless cycle of waiting for the next surprise. Eventually this leads to injury, fatigue and poor behaviors!

Even if you can’t offer your horse a whole lot, a little each day is more than enough 💗

Days are long, chaotic, life happens and horses sure are horses, but the importance of having a consistently scheduled, routine, feed schedule for your horses is so important to their health… and yours!

Horses by nature are made to graze. They want to eat and travel, having constant access to forage. Although that isn’t always possible in every scenario, it’s important to mimic this as often as you can to keep your horse’s tummies full, stress down and reduce the risk of medical situations such as ulcers or colic.

More importantly, though, comes the issue of feeding the horses inconsistently with quality of feed and timing of feed. If horses are always guessing where their next meal is coming from, when their next meal is coming or whether or not it can properly support their body, that is going to instantly spike their stress response.

Horses that are fed good quality feed and at a consistent time everyday, are often much more relaxed, happy and healthy!

I know it can be tough, but really try to give yourself specific time periods throughout each day to make sure, even if it isn’t the exact same time everyday, it is close enough to keep that stress response (for you & the horses!) low!

Lately I find myself talking a lot about Vitamin E and what it can do to help many of the horses I have seen. It may seem like a small addition to the feed routine, but man is it a mighty one!

Vitamin E is an antioxidant that helps to keep your horse’s cells and tissues functioning their very best! Most horses could naturally obtain proper amounts through lush grass & high quality hay, but less face it… that is not possible in our area!

Common signs of deficiency I see are:
❌Muscle tension, soreness and/or wasting
❌Low quality skin, coat and/or hooves
❌Lack of stamina and a poor attitude
❌In some cases, neurologic changes

Although it is likely that your horse could benefit from some added vitamin e to their diet, it is always important to consult your vet team first. After all, this could be the missing piece to your horse’s nutrition plan😉

In healthy joints, lubricin and hyaluronic acid serve as lubricating molecules that promote smooth, frictionless motion. Both molecules also mitigate the action of inflammatory mediators within the joint and protect articular cartilage from degeneration.

Ensuring your horse has a balanced diet can be a very overwhelming and daunting task to take on, but it is one of the most important nonetheless. Understanding what your horse is eating, what their personal needs are and the effects of what you are offering them nutritionally is imperative to them having a successful career.

Horses that don’t have a properly balanced diet can show a variety of signs, with common ones such as:
❌Struggling with maintaining weight
❌Poor coat quality
❌Low stamina/burning out quickly energy wise
❌Grouchy, short tempered, unwilling
❌Trouble staying sound/free in their body
❌Endless issues with their hooves (bruising, chipping, lack of growth etc)

It is important to remember that every horse is an individual, requiring a different level of dietary needs to be successful, so what your barn mate feeds their horse may not work for yours… and that is totally okay!!

Unsure where to start? Reach out to your vet team and the nutritionist at your local feed store!

Only a few, but some of the many signs your horse may be feeling a bit sore in their hooves. It goes without saying that these signs can also mean a multitude of other things going on with your horse as well.

If your horse is showing any of these signs or any unusual behavior, I advise you to chat with your vet as soon as possible.
