What Choice Are You Teetering On?
Choice by choice, we are becoming.
As I lay awake in the dark for hours last night, my mind kept returning to one simple yet profound word.
Choices.
The daily choices we make.
The things we feed.
The things we nurture.
The things we allow to grow.
Recently, I have watched something beautiful unfold at Mended Souls.
One client shared a lovely review about her experience in my Head/Scalp Sanctuary.
But she didn’t stop there.
She shared her experience with others.
She spoke highly of it.
She chose to speak life.
Now, one after another, women are scheduling and telling me, “April spoke so highly of this experience.”
I found myself sitting with that.
One person. One choice. One decision to speak positively.
And look at the ripple effect.
It reminded me that our lives are often shaped not by one grand moment…
…but by the small choices we make repeatedly over time.
The thoughts we rehearse. The words we speak. The habits we form. The perspectives we choose.
Little by little, those choices become part of who we are.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Years ago, I made a personal choice to stop eating red meat.
Not because everyone should. Not because it was right for everyone.
It was simply a choice I made for myself.
And in 28 years, I have never knowingly veered.
Why?
☆ Because once I made the decision, I stopped negotiating with myself.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Then another memory surfaced.
Years ago, I was given a full-ride opportunity to attend college.
I didn’t go.
Not because I lacked intelligence. Not because I wasn’t capable.
I didn’t go because accepting that opportunity meant taking a required speech class.
At that time, the thought of standing in front of people and speaking felt impossible.
My nervous system… my thinking… my fear…
simply would not allow it.
Fear made the choice for me.
NOW.....Fast forward many years.
I wrote and published my book, Sawubona: My 1989 Extraterrestrial Abduction.
Then came an unexpected opportunity.
I was invited to be a keynote speaker for a UFO research group.
Immediately, that old voice returned.
“Hey....Newsflash....Remember… you don’t do public speaking.”
For just a brief moment, the old version of me spoke.
Then I made a new choice.
Oh....Yes. I do!
I decided not only would I share my story… I would do so with passion, purpose, and focus.
For that hour, I would bring that audience into my world.
And to my surprise…
I loved it.
That experience taught me something profound.
Sometimes the life waiting for us exists just beyond the fears, limitations, and old stories we have told ourselves.
Science tells us our brains create pathways around repeated thoughts and behaviors.
What we think repeatedly becomes stronger.
What we practice becomes more automatic.
Fear grows when fed.
But so does courage.
Negativity grows.
But so does gratitude.
What we feed grows.
That experience also taught me something else.
We are not obligated to remain who we once were.
Sometimes we hold onto outdated versions of ourselves far longer than we should.
The fearful version.
The insecure version.
The wounded version.
The version shaped by old pain, limiting beliefs, or stories we quietly accepted as truth.
But growth often requires us to release old identities that no longer serve us.
To make peace with who we were… while giving ourselves permission to become someone new.
That truth has shaped the way I now see life.
As I move forward, I am purposefully directing my life toward the version of myself that is expansive.
The version willing to keep growing.
Keep learning.
Keep serving.
Keep healing.
Keep saying yes to new experiences.
The version no longer willing to talk herself out of opportunities because of fear, insecurity, or old limiting beliefs.
I also recognize something deeply woven into who I am.
I was gifted with a servant’s heart.
And I believe that is part of my ultimate calling.
To serve. To encourage. To uplift. To help others heal. To offer comfort, understanding, and hope wherever I can.
To be an attentive and compassionate listener. A safe place for others to exhale. A steady presence in a world that often feels rushed, noisy, and heavy.
That calling has shaped so much of my life and continues to guide the direction of my steps.
After all… we have one life to live.
Let’s not live it angry. Negative. Fearful. Small. Or emotionally asleep.
Let’s not spend our days dull, closed off, or merely going through the motions.
Let’s live awake.
Grateful. Curious. Expansive. Hopeful.
Fully alive.
Jesus said in John 10:10,
“I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”
That scripture speaks deeply to me.
Not merely existing. Not simply surviving.
But truly living.
Abundantly.
Growing. Evolving. Learning. Serving.
Becoming.
Maybe fear has been making choices for you too.
Maybe an old version of yourself is still whispering limitations that no longer fit the person you are becoming.
Maybe the very thing you’re resisting… is the very thing meant to grow you.
So I’ll leave you with this…
What choice are you teetering on?
What brave decision might be waiting to change everything?
Because sometimes one courageous choice…
one bold yes…
one moment of trust…
can quietly change the trajectory of your life.
Choice by choice… day by day…
we are becoming more of who God created us to be.
