Someone to do it with. These are the ingredients for LifeLong Living. And at LiveOak, we're serving individuals with cognitive disabilities and supporting them to achieve the full life they deserve. LiveOak Living Community was purposefully designed to be a safe and supportive environment for adults with cognitive disabilities. We wanted to create a community where people could thrive, not just survive. A place where people feel respected, connected and valued. At LiveOak, we:

Embrace the idea that all human beings deserve to live rich, full lives. Believe that people don't plateau, environments do. Focus on the humanity of our residents, not their diagnoses. Career pathways aren’t built in a classroom alone. They’re built through experience.

For over a decade, LiveOak Living Community has partnered with Texas State University’s Department of Psychology to provide students with that experience. Through the Learning Community for Cognitive Disabilities, 194 interns have spent over 120 hours each semester working alongside our team, providing direct support, advocacy, and education to adults living with cognitive and intellectual developmental disabilities.

The impact runs both ways. Students gain clinical experience that strengthens their graduate applications and clarifies their direction. LiveOak gains a pipeline of talented, mission-driven professionals, several of whom now hold key roles on our staff, from Health Coordinator to Director of Resident Services.
