Catastrophizing is a pattern of false beliefs that increase a person's pain and anxiety. It doesn't means that a person's feelings aren't real, but it does mean they're unhelpful and there are other things a person could do instead.

Catastrophizing, also known as catastrophic thinking, is one form of cognitive distortion. People focus on negative thoughts and disastrous thinking.
