Being busy and moving forward are two very different experiences.

You can fill an entire day with motion and end it no closer to what actually matters. Order isn't about doing more. It's about doing the right things first, so that the rest of your effort has somewhere to land.

Jesus talked about seeking first the kingdom, and letting everything else fall into place after that. It's a simple teaching that we complicate constantly. What if the answer to your overwhelm isn't a better schedule, but a clearer first thing?

Try this tomorrow morning. Before you check a single message, decide the one thing that matters most today. Do that first, even for fifteen minutes. Everything else can wait its turn.

Sometimes the problem isn't a lack of ideas. It's too many good ones fighting for the same hour.

I talk to a lot of people who aren't stuck because they lack direction. They're stuck because they have five directions and no way to choose between them. Every option looks reasonable. Every option has a voice arguing for it. And so nothing moves.

This is where coaching does its best work. I don't hand people answers. I create space for them to hear themselves clearly enough to know which voice is actually theirs. Once that becomes clear, the next step usually isn't complicated. It just needed room to surface.

If you've been circling the same decision for weeks or months, that circling is information. It might be time to talk it through with someone whose only job is to help you get clear.

You cannot make everything a priority. That word only works in the singular.

We've turned "priorities" into a plural word, and in doing so we've stripped it of its power. If ten things are your top priority, none of them are. Discernment is the spiritual skill of sorting what actually matters from what is simply loud.

Order asks a hard but honest question: what comes first? Not what feels urgent in the moment, not what someone else is pressuring you about, but what actually aligns with the life you say you want to build.

This isn't about being ruthless. It's about being honest. You already know, somewhere underneath the noise, which things deserve your first hour, your first yes, your first attention. Order is the courage to let that knowing lead.

Name one thing today that has been getting your first attention that probably shouldn't be.

Your teenager may not need another lecture. They may need somewhere safe to put what they're feeling.

Teens carry a lot. Pressure to perform, pressure to fit in, and feelings they don't always have language for yet. When everything stays tangled up inside, it comes out sideways, as shutdown, snapping, or silence.

A journal creates Order for a mind that feels crowded. It gives a teen a private place to notice what they're actually thinking, name what they're feeling, and start to sort out what deserves their attention and what they can set down.

That's the heart behind the journals I've written for teens, covering anger, anxiety, confidence, self-worth, forgiveness, and grief. They're not workbooks full of lectures. They're guided space for a teen to hear their own thoughts.

If there's a teenager in your life who's carrying more than they're saying out loud, a journal might open a door a conversation can't.

Divine Order doesn't mean everything happens the way you planned. It means nothing is wasted.

There's an old idea in scripture about a season for every purpose: a time to plant and a time to gather, a time to hold on and a time to let go. Unity teaching leans into that same wisdom. Divine Order isn't a guarantee that life stays comfortable. It's a trust that even the seasons you didn't choose are working toward something.

I think a lot of people use "divine order" as a way to avoid making a decision. That's not what this power is for. Trusting the timing doesn't mean sitting still. It means moving forward while releasing your grip on exactly how it has to look.

This Sunday, wherever you are, take a breath and let go of one thing you've been white-knuckling. Trust that you're still being led.

I have a drawer in my house that I am spiritually avoiding.

You know the one. Cords to devices I no longer own. A gift card with an unknown balance. Half a deck of playing cards. Every time I open it, I close it again and tell myself I'll deal with it later.

Here's what's funny. That drawer is basically a picture of most people's inner life. We don't need someone to hand us more truth. We need to actually go through what we've already collected and decide what stays.

I'm not telling you to organize your junk drawer this weekend, though it wouldn't hurt. I'm telling you that Order starts small, and it starts with things we'd rather not look at.

Your church has more apps than volunteers to run them.

A livestream platform. A giving app. A social scheduler. A file-sharing tool nobody remembers the password to. Somewhere in the middle of all that, ministry is supposed to happen.

This is exactly what we dig into every week on Tech in Ministry, my show on UUMS Anointed Radio. We talk through the tools, habits, and honest tradeoffs of using technology to actually reach, connect, and serve people, instead of technology becoming one more thing to manage.
