More than 150,000 people are hospitalized with pneumonia each year, leading to roughly 41,000 deaths from the disease or related complications. The good news is there’s a vaccine designed to help reduce these numbers.

“Studies have shown that getting the pneumonia vaccine helps to prevent the most common type of bacterial pneumonia in many adults and this leads to less hospitalizations, missed days of work and death due to the infection,” says IU Health South Region emergency medicine provider, Robert (Bob) Adams, DO.

Learn more in the Q&A with Dr. Adams below:

IU Health South Region emergency physician Robert Adams, DO, shares information on how the pneumococcal vaccine can help reduce the risk of pneumonia.

Sarah Dudding, RN | Morgan Primary Care team lead

Dudding was first introduced to the profession by her father, who is also a registered nurse. In honor of National Nurses Week, please take a moment to learn about one of our amazing nurses!

Tiffany Wallace, RN | Morgan Primary Care

Wallace started working in the Morgan Primary Care front office and stayed with IU Health throughout her nursing program—balancing work, school and clinicals.

National Self Care Day, Monday, April 6, is dedicated to focusing on personal health and life balance, and the IU Health Morgan team recognized the day with a fun activity.

Jason Bullard-Batiste, DSW, LCSW-BACS, IU Health Morgan Behavioral Health therapist and team lead; Randi Naylor, Riley Pediatrics manager; and Michelle Ferran, Healthy Work Environment team member, set up a small station where team members could choose a seed or plant and plant it in a recycled bottle so they can watch it grow.

“They created an amazing event to get us up out of our chairs and get our hands a little dirty,” says Louise Cossari, IU Health Morgan administrative coordinator. “To see our team members smile and just have fun thrilled my heart. Sometimes it is not the huge things in life that bring joy but the little pleasures that help us grow.”
