Because we are an independent medical practice, we are not tied to a specific health system. That gives us the flexibility to refer our patients to the hospital, specialist, or medical center we believe is the best fit for their needs.

Need specialty care locally? We can refer you to the providers who best meet your needs.

Want to go out of town? We can help make that happen, too. Depending on your situation, referrals may include major medical centers such as Carilion, Duke, or Wake Forest Baptist Health.

One important reminder: Before choosing a hospital or medical center, make sure your health insurance is accepted there. This is especially important when receiving care across state lines. Insurance networks can be different from one state or health system to another, and your coverage may not be the same outside your local area.

⏰ Why Your Appointment May Sometimes Run Behind

At Martinsville Family Medicine, we understand that your time is valuable, and we work hard every day to stay on schedule. Our providers and staff make every effort to see patients as close to their appointment times as possible.

However, family medicine is unique because no two patient visits are exactly alike. While some appointments are straightforward, others unexpectedly require significantly more time and attention than originally scheduled.

Sometimes a provider is helping a patient who is struggling with severe depression or thoughts of self-harm. Other times, we may be delivering life-changing news such as a cancer diagnosis, discussing complex test results, or managing a serious medical condition that requires immediate attention. We also work hard to accommodate urgent illnesses and medical emergencies whenever possible, even when our schedules are already full.

While these situations can occasionally cause delays, they are also reminders of why compassionate, patient-centered care matters. If you or a loved one were facing one of these difficult moments, you would want your provider to take the time needed to listen, explain, and help.
