✨ One year. One incredible transformation. You can see the development of an open bite beginning, laterals positioned slightly behind the centrals and almost edge to edge on the primary canines and importantly how little room for the tongue to properly rest on the palate.
But these before & after photos tell a story that’s about so much more than teeth. Our first goal was helping this patient break her pacifier habit. But simply taking away a pacifier doesn’t automatically restore healthy oral function.
Prolonged pacifier use can encourage low tongue posture, a tongue thrust swallow, and reduced lip strength, patterns that can influence jaw and arch development over time.
Through myofunctional therapy, we retrained healthy function by establishing proper tongue posture, lip seal, nasal breathing, and a mature swallow pattern. We also incorporated the MyoMunchee to strengthen and coordinate the oral muscles.
When the pacifier habit is eliminated and the muscles begin functioning as they should, we can support more natural jaw development and healthy arch growth during critical years of development.
This is what myofunctional therapy is for, creating healthy function that supports growth. ✨
