National Son & Daughter Day
Not every parent-child relationship looks like the greeting card version—and not every child identifies as a son or daughter.
For some families, today is filled with calls, hugs, laughter, and time together.
For others, there is distance. Estrangement. No contact. Loss. Unspoken words. Boundaries that needed to be set. Or simply the ache of wishing the relationship were different.
And sometimes, there is love underneath all of those things.
Days that celebrate family can bring up more than happiness. They can hold grief, anger, relief, guilt, hope, acceptance—or several of those feelings at the same time.
Whether you have a son, a daughter, a nonbinary child, a child you’re separated from, a child you’ve lost, or a relationship that is complicated right now, today may bring up feelings you weren’t expecting.
So today, we’re not going to tell you to “pick up the phone” or “hug them a little tighter.”
Instead, we’ll simply say this:
Whatever your relationship with your child—or your parent—looks like today, you’re allowed to honor the feelings that come with it.
Family can be complicated. 💙🪑
