I wish I had a dollar for every time I told a patient to throw this brand of supplements in the trash šļø!
A lawsuit has recently been filed alleging that one of the most popular prenatal vitamins contains plastic-associated chemicals based on third-party testing.
Whether those allegations are ultimately proven or not, it made me thinkā¦
Why do we continue to take such a one-size-fits-all approach to prenatal supplementation or any supplementation for that matter? š¤
I am curious, when you were planning a pregnancy, did anyone ask:
⢠What does your diet actually look like?
⢠Have you been evaluated for nutrient deficiencies?
⢠Has anyone ever talked to you about methylation?
⢠Has anyone ever explained what MTHFR is and whether it could be relevant to you?
⢠Did anyone discuss the different forms of folate and why they exist?
⢠Or were you simply told, āTake a prenatal with folic acid.ā
Listen, Iām not a fertility specialist or an OB/GYN.
But I am a healthcare provider who believes women and men deserve individualized careānot generic recommendations.
Our genetics, diets, medical histories, medications, and nutritional needs are all different. It only makes sense that our supplementation should be different, too.
We should stop assuming the most popular bottle on the shelf is automatically the best choice for every woman or man.
Ask questions. Understand what youāre taking and WHY you are taking it. ā¤ļø
