Feel Good Friday ❤️🤍💙

Since America is turning 250 this year, I thought it would be fun to learn about the presidents with my spellers. One student showed his amazing sense of humor when he spelled, “quiet Terri hot for more presidents” 😂 — but then moments later showed such deep thinking when he spelled, “people gently erase history.”

One of the things I love most about spelling to communicate is that it gives students the opportunity to truly say what they want to say and show the world their knowledge, thoughts, humor, and personality. It is such a gift to witness their voices shine through in ways that might otherwise stay hidden. 💙

It’s grilling season in speech therapy this week! 🌭☀️ We have been having so much fun playing BBQ Party while working on our speech and language skills. Our little friends practiced requesting different items, using target phrases like “put it on,” and taking turns with friends.

There are so many fun speech and language targets packed into this simple summer activity, and the kids are loving every minute of it! 🍔🌽🍉

We are having so much fun making s’mores in speech therapy this week! 🍫🔥 This adorable pretend play kit even has sensory dough so we can mold our own chocolate and marshmallows.
While creating our yummy pretend treats, we are practicing sequencing the steps for how to make a s’more, requesting the items we need, and saying our target words on our smash mats. Play-based learning makes speech practice extra sweet! 🤎✨

So excited to start our summer myofunctional therapy home programs with some little friends this week ☀️🚗👄

Myofunctional therapy can help support better nasal breathing, chewing, swallowing, speech, and even sleep patterns. Summer is such a great time to give our goals an extra boost as we work toward healthier oral resting posture, better feeding skills, and clearer speech.

Our new curriculum is car-themed to give our littles fun, concrete visuals for understanding how their muscles need to work. 🚙💨

Now the big question is… who is going to be the first to bring their folder back completely finished and earn a prize from the prize box?! 🎉🏆

Today we pretend played making s’mores in speech therapy 🍫🔥🤎 We practiced requesting items, sequencing the steps to complete our treats, and using our good sounds during conversation.

This fun little kit even added some great sensory play as we made squishy marshmallows and melty chocolate. The only complaint? Why didn’t the toy maker make it harder to mix everything so we could play longer?! 😂

Such a fun way to get ready for the unofficial start of summer and bonfire season ☀️🏕️🔥

Enjoying the beautiful spring weather in speech therapy by talking all about bugs 🐞🐛🐝 We explored the different bugs we might see this spring and how they help our gardens grow. While learning, we practiced answering questions, describing, and commenting on our favorite bugs as we continued building motor skills for spelling to communicate using our letter boards. Bonus: the bugs also made the perfect little fidgets during our lesson! 🌸🪴

Enjoying the beautiful weather today as we create a spring garden scene in speech therapy! 🌸🌱☀️

Barrier games are such a fun way to target so many language skills. Today we worked on listening to directions, giving clear and concise directions, and using good grammar while describing our pictures. It was so exciting to see how closely our pictures matched at the end! 💕

Happy Mother’s Day to all the incredible moms walking alongside their children, helping them become the very best they can be 💐

One of my favorite parts of this job is helping kids find their voice so they can truly express how much they feel and appreciate. The sweetest moment this week was asking a child her favorite memory of her mom… and she said, “feeling heard.” 🥹

She also shared that the thing her mom is best at is “getting people healing.” What a beautiful way to describe a mother’s love.

I’m so grateful to use approaches that truly help children communicate, and even more grateful to work alongside families who care deeply and show up every single day for their kids. 💛
