The journey of memory loss does not follow a straight line, and neither does the experience of being a family member alongside it. Some days feel manageable. Others do not. Both are valid. π
A few things worth holding onto during the harder moments:
πΌ Memory loss changes how a person communicates, not how much they feel
πΌ Familiar faces, voices, and routines still carry great meaning even when recognition fades
πΌ A difficult visit does not mean things have permanently changed
πΌ Small gestures, a held hand, a shared song, a quiet walk, matter more than grand plans
πΌ Asking the care team for guidance before a visit can make a real difference
πΌ Giving yourself permission to grieve is part of showing up with honesty and love
πΌ The connection between you and your loved one runs deeper than memory alone
You are doing something profound simply by staying present. πΏ
