🌿 Start your day with intention.

When life feels busy or overwhelming, taking a few minutes to slow down can make a difference in how we approach the day ahead.

A simple morning reset can help us check in with ourselves before the demands of the day take over. Deep breathing, gratitude, movement, hydration, and setting an intention are small practices that can support mindfulness and emotional well-being.

🤍 You don’t need an elaborate routine. Even five intentional minutes can be a meaningful way to practice self-care and create a calmer start to your day.

At Healing & Growth Counseling, we encourage small, realistic strategies that can be incorporated into everyday life to support your mental health. 🌿

We invite you to share in the comments - what do you do to practice self-care as you start your day?

When we think about childhood trauma, we often think about what happened to us.

But sometimes, trauma can also come from what was missing.

Childhood emotional neglect isn’t always loud or obvious. You may have had food on the table, a roof over your head, and parents who loved you. Yet you still may have grown up feeling like your emotions were ignored, dismissed, or something you had to handle on your own.

Many people struggle to recognize emotional neglect because there isn’t always one defining event. Instead, it’s often years of not feeling seen, understood, comforted, or emotionally supported.

As adults, these experiences can show up in ways we don’t always connect back to childhood: people pleasing, difficulty asking for help, feeling guilty for having needs, avoiding conflict, perfectionism, a harsh inner critic, or struggling to identify and express emotions.

Recognizing emotional neglect isn’t about blaming your parents or saying they didn’t love you. Many caregivers did the best they could with the tools they had. At the same time, their intentions don’t erase the impact their actions, or lack of emotional responsiveness, may have had.

Healing begins with understanding these patterns, not judging yourself for them.

Click through to learn what childhood emotional neglect is, how it can shape adulthood, and why the absence of emotional support can leave lasting effects, even when nothing “obviously bad” happened.

Self care is about more than spa days or checking something off a to do list.
It’s about the everyday choices that protect your mental and emotional well being.

🌿 Some days, self-care looks like setting a boundary.
💛 Other days, it means asking for help.
😴 It might be getting enough rest.
🚶‍♀️ Taking a walk.
📖 Reading a book.
💬 Or simply giving yourself permission to slow down.

✨ You don’t have to wait until you’re overwhelmed to take care of yourself. Small, consistent acts of self-care can make a big difference over time.

💭 What’s one thing you can do for yourself today?

💭✨ Have You Ever Said...

💬 "I don't know why I reacted like that."

💬 "I wish I could have handled that differently."

💬 "I went from fine to overwhelmed so fast."

💬 "I knew what I wanted to say, but my emotions took over."

🤍 If so, you're not alone.

Emotional regulation isn't about being calm all the time. It's about understanding what's happening inside of you before your emotions take over your actions.

🧠 When we learn to recognize our emotional triggers, pause, and respond with intention, we strengthen our relationships, reduce stress, and feel more in control.

🌱 Like any skill, emotional regulation takes practice.

💚 The good news is that it can be learned.

🤝 Therapy can help you understand your emotional patterns, build healthier coping strategies, and respond to life's challenges with greater confidence.

✨ Small changes in how you respond can create meaningful changes in how you feel.

Neurodivergence isn’t about something being “wrong” with your brain.

It describes natural differences in how people process information, regulate emotions, communicate, learn, and experience the world. However, many neurodivergent individuals spend years feeling like they are “too much,” “not enough,” or constantly trying to fit into environments that weren’t built with their needs in mind.

Therapy isn’t about changing who you are. It’s about understanding yourself with more compassion and learning strategies that support the way your brain works.

This may include exploring sensory needs, emotional regulation, executive functioning, burnout, masking, relationships, communication, and self-advocacy.

Many people carry years of shame from being misunderstood. Sometimes healing begins with realizing the problem was never that you weren’t trying hard enough—it was that you were trying to navigate the world without the right support.

🍎✨ The New School Year Will Be Here Before You Know It

Even though summer is still in full swing, the start of the school year is just around the corner.

Beginning therapy now gives teens time to build trust with their therapist, learn healthy coping skills, and feel more prepared before the demands of school return.

Therapy can help teens navigate:

📚 Academic pressure

💬 Friendships and social challenges

🧠 Anxiety and overwhelming thoughts

🌱 Self confidence and self esteem

❤️ Life changes and emotional ups and downs

Healthy boundaries are often misunderstood as being rigid, selfish, or pushing people away. In reality, boundaries create the conditions for healthier relationships.

They communicate what you need to feel safe, respected, and emotionally well. Without boundaries, it’s easy to become overwhelmed, resentful, or disconnected from your own needs in an effort to meet everyone else’s.

If setting boundaries feels uncomfortable, it doesn’t necessarily mean you’re doing something wrong. For many people, especially those with a history of trauma, people-pleasing, or inconsistent relationships, boundaries can feel unfamiliar because prioritizing yourself once came with consequences.

Healthy boundaries aren’t about controlling other people’s behavior—they’re about communicating your limits and deciding how you’ll respond when those limits aren’t respected.

💚 Sometimes the most healing thing is simply having someone who listens.

Life can feel overwhelming, and it is not always easy to share your thoughts or emotions with the people around you. Therapy provides a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where you can be yourself without feeling like you have to have all the answers.

Some of the benefits of therapy include:

🌱 Learning healthy ways to cope with stress and anxiety

💭 Understanding your thoughts, emotions, and patterns

💛 Building confidence and self esteem

🗣️ Strengthening communication and relationships

✨ Gaining new perspectives and problem solving skills

🤍 Feeling heard, supported, and understood

You do not have to wait until life feels unmanageable to reach out. Therapy can help you navigate challenges, build resilience, and create meaningful change at any stage of life.

Taking care of your mental health is one of the greatest investments you can make in yourself. 🌿

Good therapy isn’t about giving advice or “fixing” you. It’s about creating a space where you feel safe enough to explore, challenged enough to grow, and supported enough to do the hard work of healing.

Healing rarely happens through one big breakthrough. More often, it happens through small, consistent moments that build insight, self-awareness, and lasting change.
