SPOTLIGHT ON BUSINESS - The Levittown Chamber of Commerce would like to introduce Alyson DeStefano, who works at YES Community Counseling Center, a non-profit, community-based agency that has been serving individuals on Long Island since 1977.DeStefano is the Project Coordinator of the Levittown Community Action Coalition, a substance use prevention and awareness coalition founded in 2015 that exists within YES CCC.
DeStefano began working at YES in 2022 as a summer camp counselor. In 2023, she began an internship role in the Prevention Department and was fortunate enough to join the staff full time later that year and in 2025, took on the role of Project Coordinator for the Levittown Community Action Coalition. DeStefano’s background with a bachelor’s in psychology and a master’s in industrial-Organizational Psychology was the perfect fit for YES CCC, allowing her to examine human relationships and motivations outside the clinical lens and analyze societal trends such as drug misuse, anxiety, family dynamics and helping connect individuals with resources they need.
DeStefano says “The overall mission of YES Community Counseling Center
is to help increase awareness about personal and community issues, prevent and treat substance misuse, and promote healthy families and a safe community. We assist young people, adults, and families in our effort to enable them to develop to their potential. While Levittown Community Action Coalition’s mission through the use of prevention, education, and engagement campaigns, likewise aims to create a safe, healthy and secure community for children and adults where untimely deaths are reduced and fewer lives are affected by addiction.”
When asked what is the best advice you have ever received from someone, DeStefano replied
“The best advice I have received is a simple sentiment held by my family. When anything becomes a bit too overwhelming, have a cup of tea. The process is grounding, as it forces us into a pause even for just a few minutes. Regulating our bodies and minds is essential to our overall wellbeing. Sometimes, doing something comforting and familiar can set us back on track to our goals.”
DeStefano lives and grew up in Massapequa Park and is fortunate to have her family close by and who she sees on a regular basis. On a side note, she was and is Irish Dancer a skill she said she will have for life. She also likes spending time listening and learning about music, going to concerts and having family movie trivia nights.
Something else to note, most services offered by YES Community Counseling Center are free of charge, while some are based on a sliding scale. YES also takes most insurance and holds to the principle that no client will be denied services based upon an inability to pay.
