Gestalt Language Processing Through Play
Did you know some children learn language in “chunks” or phrases instead of single words? This is called Gestalt Language Processing (GLP).
For gestalt language processors, play is one of the best ways to support communication! 💬✨
During play, children may use familiar scripts such as:
🗣️ “Let’s go!”
🗣️ “I got it!”
🗣️ “It’s my turn!”
🗣️ “Ready, set, go!”
These phrases are meaningful and often represent a child’s attempt to communicate, connect, and participate.
How we support GLP through play:
⭐ Follow the child’s lead
⭐ Model natural, meaningful language
⭐ Use fun, repetitive activities
⭐ Expand on their communication without pressure
⭐ Create opportunities for connection and shared enjoyment

Due to the anticipated snow, Hitting Milestones will be closed on Monday, February 23rd to ensure the safety of our staff and families. While we will truly miss seeing all of our little friends, everyone’s safety comes first. 🤍
We hope you all stay safe and warm during the storm!
