I know the feeling of not wanting to be in this world.

I know how it feels to think you are a burden to everyone who knows you.

I know the pain of feeling worthless and full of guilt for absolutely no reason at all.

I know what it feels like to live in fear of abandonment.

I know the heaviness and fatigue my body feels when all these thoughts consume me.

I know the uncomfortableness of wondering if you said the wrong thing, too much, or not enough in social situations and if others are tearing you to pieces after the interaction.

I also know these thoughts FEEL real, but are not reality. Depression and anxiety twists and turns your thoughts to appear real.

I’ve had many years of fighting my illness and am aware of the ups, the downs, and crazy turns it brings but I know in life, there are always better days ahead.

To the person who is struggling, I know what you are going through. The future seems too hard to fight.

To the person supporting them, keep loving on them, get them professional help, and be the person who will be by their side no matter what.

Depression and anxiety are mental illnesses. They bring a lot of emotions to the table and try to push those who love them the most away.

One year ago today, we put on the Happiness Through Grace 5K.

It was meant to be an annual event during mental health awareness week.

Little did I know that God knew the plans for this weekend before I did and made sure it wasn’t approved.

Although Hurricane Ian didn’t cause a lot devastation in Matthews, it did bring high winds, a lot of rain and caused several events to be canceled this weekend.

I don’t know the plans going forward but I sure am proud of how the event went down last year.

$6000 donated to 2 local non- profits, 275 participants, and alot of great conversations had!!

It’s been exactly 24 years since I was diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) and Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GED)

September 29, 1998. I called the su***de hotline after my husband went to work. I felt like I wanted to die and visualized driving so far away and off a cliff where no one could find me.

Deep down inside I must have known I really didn’t want to so I called for Help.

We are nearing the end of su***de prevention month and moving into mental health awareness week in October.

I’ve been quiet on this page for a while because life and many unfortunate circumstances took over this past year.
I didn’t have the energy or will to post but today my heart stirred and I felt the desire to share my video for those who haven’t seen it. You may be dealing with this or someone you love is going through it now and you don’t understand.

In the past few months, I have added a new medication to my regimen that has been a game changer for me. I haven’t had the episodes I typically have at certain times of the year. I have also processed a lot of traumas I had from past experiences. It’s a never ending journey and one I have to continually fight and put in the work to stay mentally healthy.
It’s not an easy task but God has blessed me with an amazing life and it is definitely worth the fight!!

If you or someone you know is struggling

You’re familiar with anxiety and depression. But can you have both at the same time? And how does treatment differ for the two?
