Carl Lacy Ratliff, 55, of Iron Station, passed away unexpectedly at his home on October 20, 2026. He is now reunited with his beloved wife, Shana, and his parents.

Born in Charlotte, North Carolina, on August 18, 1971, Carl was the son of the late Carl Thomas Ratliff and Kay Frances West. He grew up in Charlotte and graduated from Garinger High School. Blessed with the ability to work with his hands, Carl spent many years in the flooring industry, specializing in tile installation through various flooring contractors. His dedication to his trade and pride in his craftsmanship earned him the respect of coworkers and customers alike.

Carl enjoyed spending time outdoors and with family and friends. He especially loved fishing and could often be found enjoying a friendly game of co****le, horseshoes, or shooting pool. He will be remembered for his hardworking nature, kind heart, and the many friendships he built throughout his life.
He is survived by his daughter, Joslynn Ratliff; his brother, Ed Ratliff (Cami Stevens); and their daughter, Kaylynn, all of Wadesboro, North Carolina. He is also survived by many other relatives and friends who will cherish his memory.

In addition to his parents, Carl was preceded in death by his wife, Shana Ratliff.

Kirby Andrew Johnson, 77, of Bessemer City, North Carolina, passed away on Thursday, October 15, 2026, at CaroMont Health in Gastonia. Born in Charlotte on January 25, 1949, Kirby was the son of Leslie and Hazel Bradshaw Johnson, and a proud native Charlottean whose roots ran deep in the community he loved.

Kirby spent his working years in shipping and receiving, building a long and steady career in warehousing. Amongst other companies, he worked for Monarch and later for Keystone, where he retired after decades of dependable service in the profession. He was known for his work ethic, his reliability, and the quiet pride he took in doing things the right way.

Sports were woven into the fabric of Kirby’s life. He played, enjoyed, and watched bowling, golfing, and baseball, and in his home, there was truly never an “off season.” If a game was on, Kirby was watching it. And when sports weren’t on, he was tuned into Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, or any Western he could find—shows that matched his love of tradition, competition, and a good story.

Some of Kirby’s happiest moments were spent sitting on the porch with his friend, watching his great‑grandchildren play in the yard. Those simple afternoons—laughter in the grass, conversation on the porch, the comfort of familiar company—were among his greatest joys.

He loved vacationing in Florida, looked forward every year to playing in the RGA (Ray Gilbert Golf Tournament), and treasured every opportunity...

Neil McGuire of Charlotte North Carolina, 79, passed away on October 8th surrounded by those he loved. Neil was born on November 13th 1946 in Denver Colorado son of Harold and Roberta McGuire older brother to Susan Doane and Connie Ring.

Neil married the love of his life, Carlyn, in August of 1966, and they had just celebrated 60 years of marriage. He graduated from the University of Colorado in 1969. He is survived by his wife Carlyn, his four children, Matthew, Stephen and his wife Kerry, Jonathan and his wife Kimberly, and Jennifer and her husband Keith as well as his “greatest joys”, his 10 grandchildren, and of course all the lives of which he touched. While he began his professional life in engineering for the first 4 years of his career, his real passion and gifts were in teaching high school. He spent most of his life inspiring and supporting kids in classrooms, teaching both math and science in various schools across three different states for 20 years, eventually working in school administration as well. Supporting and providing for his family always, he moved to North Carolina with his family in 1994 and worked with Bob Jones University Press until he retired in 2013. He became a Christian and follower of Jesus in 1972, and continued to serve Him throughout his life, over his years in teaching at Christian schools and working with their local churches, but also in the way he loved and invested in his family and friends.

Alton Fitzroy Nugent, born on July 24, 1936, in St. Thomas, Jamaica, to Elsie Stewart and Aston Nugent, peacefully passed away on October 8, 2026.

Alton was predeceased by his parents. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Ciclyn; his children, Heather, Karen, and Alicia; his stepchildren, Elise and Ricardo; five grandchildren, Xavier, Kinte, Khalila, Armaan, and Kennedy; and three great-grandchildren, Kai, Aria, and Axel.

He is lovingly remembered by his sisters, Monica, Lois (George), Maureen, Sherrol, and Marcia, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends across Jamaica, the United States, and Canada.

Throughout his life, Alton pursued a distinguished career in accounting and auditing in Jamaica. After migrating to the United States in 1986, he worked in the Spending Account Department at Aetna, real estate with Prudential Connecticut Realty, the United States Postal Service, and later with Securitas after retiring.

Alton embraced life with enthusiasm. A regular attendee at Albemarle Road Presbyterian Church, he cherished his faith. He was also an avid swimmer, hiker and enjoyed listening and dancing to rhythm and blues music.

Alton’s legacy of unwavering faith, compassion, and service to others touched many lives. He will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered by all who knew him.

As 2 Corinthians 5:8 (NKJV) reminds us, “…to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.”

Peggy Yvonne Merritt Mattox, of Pawleys Island, South Carolina, passed away peacefully at her home on October 6, 2026.

Born on September 16, 1941, in Albemarle, North Carolina, Peggy was the daughter of Manuel Franklin Merritt and Yvonne Foreman Merritt. She grew up with a strong work ethic and a warm, welcoming spirit that would shape her life and the many relationships she nurtured over the years.

Peggy graduated from Harding University, continuing her education at Southeastern and Queens College, where she strengthened the skills and confidence that would guide her professional path. She found her calling in cosmetology, working as a beautician for many years. Through dedication, talent, and a genuine love for people, she was well loved and requested at Anthony’s where she had a devoted list of clients she called friends. Peggy retired in 2011, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, professionalism, and countless friendships formed across decades of service.

Family was the heart of Peggy’s life. She is survived by her son, Mark Anthony Mattox; her brother, Bobby Merritt; and her sister, Judy Turner. She is further survived by numerous relatives and friends who cherished her warmth, humor, and steady presence.

Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Hayes Mattox; her sons, Jonathan Ray and David James Mattox; and her parents.

Guy Brent McAdams, of Charlotte, North Carolina, passed away after a life defined by curiosity, service, craftsmanship, and a mischievous sense of humor that never failed to make those around him smile. Born on January 17, 1954, in Biloxi, Mississippi, at the Keesler Air Force Base hospital, Guy spent his early years in the Oklahoma City area, where he grew up, graduated from high school, and began charting the course of a remarkable life.

Drafted during the Vietnam War era, Guy served his country in the United States Navy, earning an honorable discharge and carrying forward the discipline, perspective, and camaraderie that shaped him. After his service, he pursued higher education with determination—first at San Diego Community College, where he earned his associate degree in Mechanical Engineering, and later at the University of Oklahoma, further strengthening the foundation for his technical career.

Guy’s professional journey took him to Texas Instruments in Dallas, then he contributed to the design of the superconducting supercollider’s magnets—work tied to the ambitious particle physics project often referred to as the Sern Collider “formerly know as the Super Conducting Super Collider” in Waxahachie TX. His engineering mind, steady hands, and problem-solving instincts were hallmarks of his career. In 2005, Guy and his wife moved to the Charlotte area, where he later retired from Ganassi Racing.

Shirley Marie Larson, 103, of Charlotte, went to be with her Lord and Savior, on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at The Little Flower Assisted Living Facility with a staff member at her side. She moved to Charlotte in the 1950's after working in Washington DC as a member of the US Navy, being part of the WAVES while serving in WWII in the Navy Communications Department. Upon moving to Charlotte, she started working for Presbyterian Hopital, currently known as Novant Medical Center, as a payroll clerk until her retirement in 1988. She lived to be 103 years old because she never owned or drove a car. She walked to work everyday. Ms. Larson loved to crochet blankets for babies, various needlework, volunteer at her church, reading, spending time at The Charlotte Theatre, and socializing with her friends at The Cotswold Cottages where she lived. She was born on July 2, 1923, to her late parents Amos and Myrtle Johnson Larson in Mason City, Iowa, one of six children. She is survived by her youngest brother Gerald Larson of Hollywood, Florida. She is survived by many nieces and nephews. A service to Celebrate her Life will be on Saturday, October 24 at 1 PM at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 1001 Queens Road, Charlotte, NC 28207.

Harry Robert Henderson Jr., 84, of York, South Carolina, passed away surrounded by the family he cherished and the legacy he built. Born in Charlotte on April 18, 1942, Harry was the son of Harry and Madeleine Henderson, and from the very beginning, he carried the quiet strength, loyalty, and devotion that would define his life as a father, grandfather, and great‑patriarch.

A proud graduate of Harding High School, Harry answered the call to serve his country and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on August 4, 1964. He served with honor and distinction, rising to the rank of Sergeant before his honorable discharge in 1972. His years in the Marines shaped his discipline, his sense of duty, and his lifelong interest in military history and weaponry.

Returning home to Charlotte, Harry began a long career with the City of Charlotte, where he worked as a Sign Shop Supervisor. He then went to work for Steelfab Fabrications, from which he retired. He took pride in his work, in the people he served, and in the city he called home.

Harry lived a life rich with interests and passions. He enjoyed target shooting, saltwater fishing, motorcycles, studying military weapons, and movies. He loved baseball, coaching Little League and supporting the Salvation Army Boys Club Baseball program. William Joseph (Billy) Williams, 66, of Matthews, passed away September 17th, 2026, at home.

Billy loved music!! He sang in the Youth Choir at Matthews Presbyterian Church and with the Patriot Singers of Independence HS, an elite group of the schools top vocalists. Billy graduated from Independence HS, Class of ‘78. Billy also took piano lessons and quickly became a very accomplished pianist, moving up to a more advanced teacher. Neighbors would pause as they walked down the road when the front door was open to enjoy hearing Billy play.

Billy was an Eagle Scout. He possessed a remarkable memory which was an asset as he navigated across the US in his over the road driving career. Billy loved the Lord Jesus, and he looked forward to being with Jesus in Heaven.

Billy is survived by his mother, Venetia Williams; his siblings, David Williams of Indian Trail and Carol Pettigrew of Mint Hill, sister-in-law Kathy Williams; and his nieces and nephews; Bobby Williams, Summer (Dave) Yarborough, Joshua (Tiffany) Matus, Lauren (Morgan) Pryor, Jaime Pettigrew as well as numerous other relatives and friends.

Billy was preceded in death by his father, Alvin Williams and his brother, Alan Williams.
