Congratulations to one of our own wonderful pelvic therapists! We are proud of you McKenna!
Toledo Market physical therapist, Makenna Niese recognized
Makenna Niese has only been with Mercy Health for a year and already she is receiving praise from her patients.
Makenna is a physical therapist at Mercy Health - St. Luke's Outpatient Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation and Therapy. In total, Mercy Health – Toledo offers pelvic floor services at four locations including Sunforest Court, St. Lukes and Perrysburg Outpatient therapy clinics.
“My passion is seeing small changes in patients' lives week after week until all the small things come together to make a big change in a patient's life,” explains Makenna.
Life changing is just what Makenna did according to her grateful patient, Eric, who lives in Maumee.
Eric had endured several surgeries to treat a painful infection, and the complications made his recovery especially challenging.
“I was struggling to leave the house, and I had changed my life to dictate how far we could travel,” Eric explains.
Following a recommendation, he landed with Mercy Health and Makenna, whose specialty is pelvic floor rehabilitation. Pelvic floor is a wide and growing field. It is a specialized form of physical therapy that helps strengthen, relax, and improve coordination of the muscles that support the bladder, bowel, and pelvic organs. It can also help reduce pain and improve function after surgery, injury, or certain medical conditions.
“I wanted nothing to do with going to therapy,” Eric shares. “My first impression was that she was young and could do nothing to help me.”
But Eric decided to listen to what Makenna had to offer and to his surprise she not only knew what she was talking about, but the results were astounding.
“I followed what she told me to do, “he says. “She set me up with a regiment, she adjusted, she made recommendations and in four weeks’ time she absolutely changed my life. I told her in person that she made a difference for me. I don’t need any more visits and I have all the tools now – it just clicked.”
Eric just enjoyed a long trip and is no longer held to the constraints of his condition. He is grateful to Makenna for her skill and professionalism in bringing his journey to an positive end.
Makenna is one of many skilled physical therapists at Mercy Health. She works at our location on Monoclova Road, which is being reenvisioned in the previous St. Luke’s Hospital location. Several women’s health services are slated to open in that space in September of this year. Later this fall, the second and third floors at 6005 Monclova will open as our Mercy Health – Women’s Center. The center will include women’s imaging and women’s specific specialty services.
