💆♀️ Credentials Matter. 💆♀️
I’m proud to be NCBTMB Board Certified in Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork and to have successfully passed the FSMTB national examination, with 22 years of experience helping clients move better, feel better, and live better.
Many people don’t realize that Minnesota has no statewide licensing requirements for massage therapists. You read the correct! YIKES!
In most cases, regulations are determined at the city level, and education requirements can vary significantly—or may not be required at all.
In some areas, a person can legally open a massage practice without completing a formal massage therapy education program. You read that right! Someone having never performed a massage session could open a business and claim to be capable of giving a massage. If that’s not eye opening enough, some spas are known for doing this as well! Buyer beware is my point with this.
That’s why I want to bring attention to this matter. Experience matters!
I believe that, like other healthcare professionals, massage therapists should complete a formal education and pass a national board examination. Passing a national exam demonstrates competency, knowledge, and a commitment to professional standards.
There is growing discussion within the profession about establishing statewide standards in Minnesota just like States like Florida and Arizona. Currently, only 3 states remain unregulated and Minnesota is one of them.
My hope is that within the next 3 years, Minnesota will adopt consistent statewide guidelines for massage therapists, including education requirements and successful completion of a state or national board examination.
That’s why it’s important for consumers to ask questions and understand the qualifications of the person providing their care.
Don’t be afraid to ask your therapist about their education, certifications, credentials, and experience.
When it comes to your health, credentials matter. I have invested decades into education, advanced training, and maintaining the highest professional standards because my clients deserve nothing less.
