While you’re staying safe at home, remember that shoveling wet, heavy snow is one of the most common causes of low back strains and sprains this time of year.

Here are a few quick tips to protect your back:

✔️ Don’t wait until the snow piles up — shovel every few hours instead of all at once.
✔️ Work slow and steady — pace yourself.
✔️ Avoid bending, lifting, and twisting at the same time.
✔️ Keep the shovel close to your body and use your legs.
✔️ Push the snow when possible instead of lifting it.

Sudden bend-lift-twist motions can put excessive strain on your spine and may even contribute to disc injuries.

If you do tweak your back, we’re here to help once we reopen. Stay safe, stay warm, and take care of your spine!
