As our Summer EMT Academy begins wrapping up its lecture portion this week, we're reflecting on everything our students have accomplished so far!

🚑 Week 1: Students toured Chautauqua County Dispatch, learned patient lifting and moving techniques for challenging situations, labeled multiple mannequins to better understand anatomy and physiology, and dove into many hours of classroom instruction.

❤️ Week 2: Students had the opportunity to learn about cardiac emergencies from Sara Swanson, CRNP & EMT-P. They also began creating and responding to their own patient care scenarios, putting their knowledge into practice.

🩺 Week 3: Students completed their midterm exam and focused on developing their hands-on skills through practical training.

🦴 This Week: We were fortunate to welcome Dr. James Brodell, EMT-B, who shared his expertise on musculoskeletal injuries.

🚁 Today was an especially exciting day! Chris Ford from Mercy Flight visited to provide a ground school presentation. Students then had the incredible opportunity to participate in landing Mercy Flight 5 at Lakeside Park. Even better, approximately 85 local summer camp students joined us to see the helicopter up close and learn more about emergency medical services!

With about two weeks remaining, our students will spend the majority of their time refining their hands-on skills and preparing for the next step in their EMT journey.

We are incredibly proud of the dedication, hard work, and enthusiasm this group has shown throughout the academy. We can't wait to see them finish strong!

A special thank you to:

Knowledge starts at the top. We had a great session this week as Director Noel Guttman stepped in to lead our current EMT class through the essentials of the Incident Command System (ICS). Mastering scene management is just as vital as clinical skills.
