On Wednesday, Loyola ophthalmology had our annual Practice of Clinical Medicine (PCM) course which welcomed the Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine medical students to take a deep dive into the world of ophthalmology. Supported by A Nu Reality, our department chair Dr. Charles Bouchard, our program director Dr. Roshni Vasaiwala, and all of our ophthalmology residents, students got to learn key clinical skills like checking pupils, understanding eye anatomy, and walking through the pathophysiology of ocular diseases like Glaucoma and Horner Syndrome. Technology was harnessed to allow students to manipulate the eye anatomy, diagnose pathology, and learn anatomy through virtual reality. Each year, we look forward to this day to introduce students to the field and ensure they start their clinical rotations with a strong foundation. Swipe to enjoy the day!

We had our Annual Blue Coat Ceremony this past Wednesday and welcomed our new PGY-2s to the Loyola Department of Ophthalmology (Sam, Parker Marsh, Abhishek Ramini, Urjita). They read an oath, listened to fantastic speeches by our attending faculty, were formally introduced, and were coated by their seniors in the PGY-3 class. This Loyola tradition reminds us of our cherished values. Welcome PGY-2s!

Our residents had the best time at their annual PGY-1 welcome party hosted at our chief Lauren’s rooftop in Wicker Park last night. We are so excited to have Sarah P, Sarah T, Nathan, and Kartik join our ophthalmology department this year! The night was celebrated with smash burgers, a summer salad, grilled veggies and chicken, watermelon salad, and much more. The Chicago summers cannot be beat!

Congratulations to all four superstar seniors, Dr. Alexis Stefaniak-Clarke, Dr. Meriam Ben Hadj Tahar, Dr. Amber Randolph, & Dr. Max Whitmeyer on getting certified in both iStent Infinite & iDose making this class the only residency class in the country to become iDose certified 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻!!!! Kudos to Glaucoma Service Director, Dr. Meenakshi Chaku & Chief of the Hines VA, Dr. Jigna Joshi for ensuring our residents are well trained in and as well as other glaucoma procedures, making them ready to handle any pressure that comes their way🤩 Big shoutout to our Glaukos Corporation rep Paul Pocica for helping us make this happen!!!
